When I first moved into my apartment last July, my landlord said that my dogs barked. After a couple months he said they were not doing so anymore. They (there are two of them) do bark when people come around my fence, but when I drive by or pull into the street I don't hear them barking if no one is by my place. I've also asked friends and family and they tell me that the only time they hear them barking is again when people walk close to my fence. Well today someone at another complex called my manager complaining about dogs barking so my manager gave this stranger my cell phone number.

The guy called me, but I was in class at the time. He left what I considered to be a very threatening messge. I called him back during break and asked him what his name was and how he got my phone number. Both questions, he refused to answer. He just yelled and threatened me. Telling me that he would "take care of it" himself.

I called my manager and told him that this was unacceptable. I also told him that I had asked him multiple times if my dogs were loud or causing any problems and he had told me no. (Today he said that he had just gotten used to it). He is fixing the lock on my back door so that the dogs can't push open the glass door and get out into the yard now.

I asked my neighbors right across from me and they said that my dogs were not a problem and there are so many dogs in our small neighborhood that it would be difficult to tell which one was barking at any given time anyway.

It seems that my manager is afraid of my dog (He is an American Bulldog but thinks he is a lap dog) and just wanted to blame it on anyone handy. Problem is that I am a single female living alone and now this nut case knows not only my phone number but where I live. I tried to make a police report today, but getting through to the police station is difficult. I will keep trying just to get a record of it.

But my question is does anyone know of any other things I can do to protect myself or my privacy (can't change my phone number because someone special has this one and can't get the new one).

I recommend checking your cell phone and writing the guy's number down. Try to do a trace online and see if you can get the jerk's address. Otherwise, keep trying to get through to the police. If the guy keeps bothering you, let him know that you're contacting the authorities, and that you have witness statements that say that your dog(s) are not causing any trouble to anyone. Also, tell your landlord not to give out your number anymore. :/

ask the manager for the name and number of the person who called you he had no problems giving your number to them i fail to see why he couldnt give it to you.. its probably a better idea though to get the police to get the number and deal with it.. if you still have the message you can let them hear it..the police will be able to deal anyone threatening you or your dogs also if they have a record of the threat if anything then happens they will know the history of what has been going on.. and will go straight to the person who made the threat

If I were you, I would keep a close eye on my dogs. :bug:

Not only keep a close eye on your dogs, but I'd start documenting everything. Document, Document, Document.....that way you are CYA and have a record of everything.
Document!!!!

if the recording was threatening enough, get a restraining order.

Change your phone number and only have people close to you have it.

You can get you cell company to block his number so he can't call you. If if calls you on a different number have that blocked too.

I hope you get it sorted as it must be very scary. :hugz:
