Hey all you artsy folks! I was having my usual saturday morning chat with Xen and today it spawned a great new idea. There are far too many great artists here who go unrecognised by anyone other than those who frequent this forum. We need to showcase that.

Xentor is going to create a failry simple art gallery that will feature the art of some of MW's fantastic artists, both known and hidden! Rather than a subforum here..it should have a spot on the front page..or at least a flashing neon sign don't ya think? ;)

Xentor also mentioned the kids including some of their art work to be displayed in the public gallery, with parental approval of course. Maybe even some of you fine artists wouldn't mind sketching out some art for the smaller ones to color? What better way to see your art on display than to have it coupled with the artistic spin of a toddler or budding divinci?

Anyway we were thinking about some possible voting occasionally and I was just now thinking that maybe we could post the winning piece somewhere special. But not contests all the time because this is more about the art on display and not judging..the MW museaum of art, not to be confused with art forum with threads full of art. Each piece chosen by the artist to be displayed. It could rotate every so often or whatever..when new art came in and we could even have special shows for one artist ...like..um there is a name for that. Oh well I am going to sleep and the first one who figures out what the word was is my new best friend or something. Oh wait I think I just meant exhibition. Anyway..night night

Thoughts?

I wanted someone else to reply before I did... but :nyah: I guess I'll go first.

I think it's a good idea (albeit I don't quite understand how the judging thing would work. :eyebrow: Anyway.) Stars know I wouldn't know most work if I didn't lounge around in here.

e..or at least a flashing neon sign don't ya think? ;)
Blinkieeeeeeeee!

I wouldn't mind doing that -- I think I have some uncoloured ones in my thread (well, I know of at least one, because I was going to do it digitally. )

Was it exhibit?

Wow Semele, I think you're definately psychic.
I was just coming in to browse for art and here is the perfect way to do it. I hope it doesn't take long to set up, there's too many artists in here who need to get over being shy and show their work.

Excellent! I am glad others are into this idea as well. I think far too much great work gets hidden away.

I am not sure how long it will take to get it rolling. Everyone should be thinking about what they want to display for their first showing!

Great idea! Does this have to be stuff we haven't already posted in the art forums? The only painting I really have photos of at the moment is in the finished works forum right now. :) But I can take pics of some of my older stuff too...

It needs a truely anonymous feedback option or rating system that can be set up with general setting like on a scale of 1 to 10 what do you think of the composition?
or multiple choice formats, and maybe a small comment box maybe, not unlike the photo album, but to begin to fuel the critiques back up. There is a thriving art community on here that just needs direction and amplification instead of all the lose extras on stuff like Elfwood or DeviantArt, which are fine and they serve their purpose, but yet again are low on the true critique area.

i think its an awesome idea, im a artist and i think this is a good thing for people who love art like myself. i just have one question, does it have to be drawing/art that involves wicca or religion in of any sort of can it be anything? thank you

I wouldn't think so. Few if any of my works have any wiccanish (...is THAT even a word? )
overtones...

You know, this could also serve as an online portfolio for many who need an area to display, but can't get into any galleries or know nothing of html...

That was going to be my question, too. What kind of art? 2D or is 3D sculpture also allowed?

April 16th, 2005, 08:06 PM
Hey, I have some of both kinds!! I sure hope I find out how to submit, I'm confused at this point! Oh, & there's a good word for what you meant, Semele: "showcase". Though "exhibition" will do! :D

Semele

Art is art right? If you can dream it up and create it and we can display it then we shall! I am going to remind Xen and Mol of this idea and see about all the suggestions mentioned.

The art museum will be a featured album in the new photo album I'm creating. Currently the photo album is in beta testing. There's another thread in which I ask for testers.

Here is a Pentacle that I made out of Natural Tree Limbs that I found.

I built it at my UBC Sacred Grove:
