View Full Version : Pope Jean Paul (George Ringo) II

What are your opinions on the ill health of the current (but possibly not by the time you read this) Pope?
I think it's sad when old people die (or any people for that matter)
I understand it's all fresh in people's minds. So I'll say it now.
I for one, am sad to see an old man live out the end of his days, but glad to see the Roman Catholics lose their leader.

I think he was a good Pope. Hope they don't replace him with a more-fundie fundamentalist.

I think death should be celebrated (in the right cases), he lived a long life and I assume it was worth it to him. I don't think it's sad at all. It's his time.

Hope they don't replace him with a more-fundie fundamentalist.
The people are calling for a more liberal religious leader.
One who will say yes to homosexuals in the church (lol) and one who will be fully competant like Jean Paul in his younger days, and not the weathered old man we came to know him as.
I vote Mel Gibson for the next pope.

Pope Jean-Paul? By day: Conservative Leader of the Roman Catholic Church! By night: Fabulous French fashion designer! ;)

Aye, but does he have a choice in the matter.
After his many chats with God (as we're led to believe) surely the topic of "Could I, y'know... NOT have parkinsons" must have came up at least once.

I liked his views on some issues. I think he is a very tough man, which is why he is still here. He did survive being shot some odd years back! I think he is a good man. I am not Catholic, so I can't offer any leadership views, but the Catholics seem to love him very much, so he must be a good leader to them. Let's just hope the next Pope is as good a man as he has been.

A lot of people in the first world do, but most of the church's actual membership is from the third world, and they're pretty damn conservative...

Just for the record, I'm not voting for another Pope.
Good, you don't have a choice (unless of course you're high up in the diocese, in which case you're a heratic and I'm telling Pope on you!) because the general public, R.C or not, don't choose the next pope.
God doesn't choose him either.
I for one, am hoping for a black, gay, muslim, female pope
About time we spread a message of equality!

You get old and you DIE. Why grieve over a man who has had an exceptional life? I don't see the point. I think his life should be celebrated. The fact that he may have asked God if he could finish his life w/out Parkinsons doesn't have anything to do with it.

Besides, I will live as best I can in life and not worry about death. If everything I do in life is just to stave of pain afterwards, then it is meaningless. I'll just see and deal with whatever comes my way.

It's ridiculous how many people believe blindly. Those that are gathering and praying for this man think he is higher than the rest of use and it sickens me. No matter what the people or even the Pope thinks, he has no more "heavenly" connection than anyone else and his condition is somewhat proof of the puddding. Besides, the most humble faithful individual that worships a god should not dress in clothes that cost thousands of dollars or wear jewelry that any one piece could feed a good sized town for quite sometime. If I were him I would be deeply ashamed of it all!

Why thank ya ma'am! that is my absolute favorite song by him, my daughter thinks I am insane, cause when it is playing I am singing it at the top of my lungs like a fool!
OOOh, Constantine.....the name alone is perfect! Imagine...an American Idol Pope! Hmmm, Maybe Simon? Now THAT would destory the Catholic Church for you Stormbeard!

Sorry to be the party pooper, but I think you all are acting REALLY disrespectful towards a man, whom led a religion that I know many here dont agree with, but who was indeed a remarkable man and filled his duties with a lot of devotion and care.
He means a lot fo MANY people around the world, providing them with spiritual fulfillment and inspiration. And even though some of you dont buy into the Catholic Dogma and belief, it still should be respected as well as The Pope himself.
Funny how Pagans demand tolarance and respect from others, yet many of them dont act that way towards others.

Everyone would tune in just to see him tell the other religions how preposterous they were, and how he could walk into a place of worship anywhere across the world and find a sermon just as good or better!

I apologize for coming off respectful, I was playing with the Mystic Wick-ic "The Pope" Character, not meaning anything towards the actual Pope. I apologize for offending anyone if I had. I found the person posing as the Pope to be amusing.

I just realized that you apologized for coming off respectful! :hugz:
see, I'm pokin' fun at her typo, but that doesn't mean that I don't respect her, it means that I choose to play most of the time because the rest of the time I am so oooo deep, no one on this board could probably even begin to touch it...it eats at me, I have so much deep emotion for people and if I stay in the serious realm, it tears my soul apart.

I need to learn to type well...that's nothing, one time I was all serious in a post and I could have sworn that I wrote "I hope I'm not wrong, because I don't want to go to hell if I'm wrong" only to go back and read the post a couple of weeks later and wonder how many people read it before I corrected the error...I'd written "do" instead of "don't"

It isn't the matter of knowing one another.
It's the fact that the world lost one more good man when it cannot afford to lose any.
It isn't about blind faith, it isn't about religion, it isn't about death, it isn't about satire or serious.

You know, I was feeling bad for a few minutes there, but the fact is that the Pope, being such a true believer in his religion is, I am sure, quite joyous with going to meet his maker, his lord and I believe that is where he is. I also think that he would not be offended by our using humor in this time, he was known to be open to humor and love of life, and I don't think our doing so was disrepectful.
If I went to the point that I offended anyone, then I am sorry, but it certainly was not my intention.

btw, if you're saying he's a good man, then you're still judging him, albeit on the positive side, and no one can say whether he was a good man or not 'cept his own creator

I haven't been online lately but with all this pope talk on the news I had to get my pagan fix for the day by coming here.
(Interestingly enough, I can't even escape the pope-talk HERE!!! :))
Honestly though... I feel like this pope was too conservative. He was a good pope and he lived a very long life, but his life was so long his his followers have grown and adapted to the changes in the modern world while his ideals have grown to "old" for the direction the church needs to move in.
With the scandal going on in Mass (and elsewhere) I think there have to be changes in the church and it's personal (not religous) beliefs.
There needs to be more consequences for priests who preform acts that would be considered a crime in the "real" world. There should be certain allowances- like letting priests marry; And if there are so many religons in the world, who are they to say that everyone in the world is going to "hell" if they don't convert? How can I go to a place I dont believe in??
oh.... Don't get me started!
I could go on and on... I am a recovering cathoholic
once I start there's no stopping me.

When I was a child, I saw him in Rome... and he passed only feet from me, and for that bit of time, I knew what it was like to have someone that had endured so much pain trial in life be so alive and so strong of a person.
I am not slamming on you, you know me well enough from my posts on here to know that I hold no harm to anyone.
To live is to judge, we do it everyday. From the minute to the major.
I left seminary because I had problems with it, with my faith... but to this day, I will never forget that man's smile. Never.
No one is asking for you to apologize nor should you.
But for some of us, the pain is a little too close to home... and even the things held in the most innocent ways can harm when they are not meant to.
