Hi,
I bought my friend a herkimer diamond about a month ago and i guess she decided to charge it in the microwave for 2 seconds. It worked, and she says that the heat in the microwave is the same type as from the sun, but i was just wondering if there was a difference.

The heat from the sun is the same as the heat in the microwave? That's a new one. Yes, there's a difference!
The microwave uses radio waves at a frequency which makes water, fat and sugar absorb them. The waves turn into atomic motion, which then becomes heat. This is of course not the way the sun works.
At this specific frequency, the radio waves are NOT absorbed by things like plastic, glass and ceramics, and metal reflects them. I must admit that I have no idea what they would do to a diamond, but personally I would not charge a stone in a microwave oven.

Some stones, like malachite, are metalic ores. Might they explode??? I wouldn't microwave rocks/crystals...

No, putting metal in the microwave won't make anything explode. But it might make an interesting light-show...

I'm much prefer the moon and/or sun over a microwave. I don't think a microwave can even compare to the sun let alone be the same. :whatmewor

the idea of putting a stone onto the microwave owen is DISGUSTING
just as much as you would not dry your dog or cat in one , you should not charge living stones in them
it is a shame

_tsk_OT, I know, but that reminds me of a freaky dream I once had where the new "popular" thing was to get yourself blown up in a giant microwave and put back together again by special surgeons.
Yeah, I'd probably stay away from microwaves and stones. You will likely spark with metallics, and the non-organics probably wouldn't have much reaction... Even a conventional oven seems more reasonable... ^_^

Sorry I have a strange vision of the God/Goddess putting the world or possible the Universe into a large microwave and setiing the timer....just think the whole world could end with a ping ;)

she said it was herkimer diamonds now diamonds
diamond is Carbon, pure
herkimers are clear speacial quartzes
link to herkimer diamond info (http://groups.msn.com/czechwoodsgems/herkimer.msnw)
the point is, that NOT the price defines how precious a stone is in my oppinion
life should be respected dependless on its markets worth

yes you are right
moon
sun
we already have even discussed that thunderstorms and alike can be great to recharge stones
or placing them into a creek wow
but microwave ? _tsk_

Just a precautionary post here, but I've read that if you put any kind of stone, rock or crystal into a microwave for long enough, it will explode. Just to let you guys know.

That is an interesting idea! I don't think I'd like to to heated by a microwave cos I know how good I am at burning things in mine!!

ROFLMAO. Just as long as the electricity doesn't blink.

Just about anything explodes inside a microwave if left long enough, even food.
The sun emits UV the microwave does not. This means they can't charge things the same.
Putting a rock in something used for food is disgusting, and likely to make you ill.
Putting a rock in a microwave doesn't seem like anyway to charge it, destroy it's natural energies morelike. Rocks are nature, microwaves aren't, charging nature with something which actually destroys nature (as most technology does) is bad, it's only logical that it would destroy the rocks natural energies, infecting it with its own.
I could go on, but all I'm going to say is NO. Don't do it. It's about as good an idea as putting a pet in one.

The heat is in fact not the same as from the sun. Different variations in the two heat sources do exist, but unless you are specifically wanting to harness solar energy, it becomes less relevant. If you are simply wanting to charge the stone with heat, the microwave may work on the basis that it heats all things. I would, however, advise that you thoroughly clean the microwave first, just as you would any ritual area... outside as well as within.
Secondly, be careful what stones you place in there. You may wind up losing a precious stone in the long run. Heat causes things to expand and cracks may form in the stones, depending on their hardness. Much worse, stones may explode and if that should occur you'll probably lose your stone, your microwave and maybe more.
Unless the stone contains toxins that should not be ingested, such as some stones not being advisable for gem elixirs, contamination of the microwave is irrelevant.
Keep in mind that you could easily charge the stone by letting it become warm outside under the sun. If you don't have the time, I say make the time. Charging it in a microwave which you first should cleanse (physically and metaphysically) and relying on technology if you are working natural magic (and you may or may not be) is rather foolish.
