Beltane Vail Between The Worlds
This Vail is one way to symbolize “The Vail Between The Worlds”, and our ability to pass between the two. Beltane is more often associated with the lighthearted and wondrous aspects of Faerie Land.
Get the kids involved, this is a great family time activity. Children love to help and be creative!
Instructions:
Hang a tension rod across a doorway or across the hallway.
Over the rod, hang tulle or nylon netting; make sure it is long enough to barely brush the floor. Double up to two or three layers for a fuller look. You can also put a darker color, (example: Dark Green) under a light color, (example: White) for a more dramatic look. Secure the netting to the rod, (Use a glue gun to secure the bottom layer to the rod, and then between layers of the netting for extra hold. Fabric glue can also be used between layers of the netting, but it takes longer to dry.) Use yarn, embroidery floss, or ribbon in the same color to secure the netting to the rod.
Cut the netting in half from the bottom up to approximately 3 inches below the rod. Cut one side then the other, make sure to cut the netting in an off set way so there will be over laps.
Edging can be put on the netting, (although the netting should not fray, this is a good way to clean up the edges. I would use wide ribbon in the same color of the netting. Fold it in half long wise, then secure with glue. You can use a hot glue gun or fabric glue)
Use silk flowers or leaves that trail or dangle to decorate the top (this helps conceal the rod), and along the sides by the wall or door frame. Bridal stuff is great for this, check your craft stores for ideas, the possibilities are endless. Decorate the netting with ribbon, small silk flowers, and leaves. I’ve even seen butterflies at the store that would look great. Glitter can also be used if you don’t mind the mess. (To do this, lay the netting out flat Sprinkle on glitter, then spray lightly with hair spray.)
