This is a direct quote from the web site above :

"The Tarot is a deck of 78 cards containing images that represent specific ideas and meanings. This ancient tool of divination and psychic development has become the bearer of the universal symbols of the Collective Unconscious: that place where all of humanity connects on the deepest level of being. Many myths and legends surround these venerable images. The Tarot cards have been associated with Gypsies, psychics, spiritualists, magicians, and, (of course) Witches. Explore the mysteries of this centuries-old form of divination."

This does not explain much, but ten minutes never really can...

As you are in England, it would be hard for me to direct you...

...the best place to start would be metaphysical shops, just ask around.

Another point Atlantis, you do not have to necessarily own a deck to benefit from the tarot classes. We will be posting pics of the cards as we study each one. We will post pics from the rider waite deck which is most common and in my opinion the easiest for beginners.

And as well in the Magick classes. I would prefer that veryone have a deck but we can make due without it. Just means a little more study time.

Blessings!

It is a shame that you don't have a shop handy for all your tools. However there are many good places online to obtain most anything you will need. unfortunately you may run into the same road blocks as Rosabelle. You do have to be old enough to have a credit card or checking account. That may be a downside but it is a neccesary evil. Most of the businesses offering these types of services are only protecting theirselves. Some parents are really against there children experimenting with magic. I would be too if I weren't involved. There are just so many ways for young children to be hurt by having too little knowledge and lack of support from sincere folks. And lets face it there is a lot of danger in the world and people who will take advantage of you if given half a chance.

One solution may be to invite your parents to the boards so that they can see what it is all about. Perhaps then they will offer to help you obtain the things you need. If not then they likely don't support your being here. The last thing we want to do is cause worry or problems in your family. We welcome you and love your participation but your parents have the final say. Some of you are very young and your parents are only trying to protect you from harm, as are we.
we just have to respect their authority and appreciate it.

no offence, but paganism is not all secret and the thing about the shops is totally untrue. you just have to know where to look. my friend already knows one.

about the tarot deck, you could just scan in some cards or save the files off the lessons. i have a deck but it is very hard to use! i also have a book but that is written in a practrically different language!

Hello,

I'm afriad I have to agree with Polaris, I live
in England and there are quite a few new age and
metaphysical shops around if you know where to look.
If you want to mail me and tell me your general
area I may be able to help. That a big may though.

On the government note, have you had a bad experience
I've always found England to have quite a tolerant
culture. I've always been particularly glad that
we don't have the religious right that exists in
the U.S. I'll stop now before we go too off topic.

Polaris and Wildwood have made good points.

To Wildwood: I think we can allow this off topic conversation because it is extremely important and I thank you for bringing it up.

To Atlantis:If you have had ANY problems concerning Government and Religion please let us know here. I will pass it on to the Powers that Be. That just cant be tolerated and people need to know if this kind of thing happens. I know I would do everything I could to help.

And about the Religious intolerance in the US...isnt that amazing. My ancestors left to create a place where there was no religious persecution and look at what we have become. Alas, it is not that bad. We do have a few Pagan shops right here in the city I live in.

Anyway, I think this is a worthwhile conversation to continue...so everyone agrees...lets move it to Just Talk.

i totally agree with you Wild Wood!! i'm glad i live in England because there are lots of people who are pagan, (i dont know what the US is like but here it is normal to know someone who is pagan).

Sorry Atlantis, I've also got to disagree with you there. I bought my Rider Waite Tarot deck on a market stall along with many other pagan books, also we have a lovely shop called "Angels" which has many Pagan articles.

Atlantis,

I am fortunate to live in a wonderfully diverse city (Chicago), and there are several really great metaphysical bookstores here. However, I purchased my own Rider-Waite tarot deck at Barnes and Noble (big chain here in U.S.)
If you are having touble finding any occult bookstores, you can try (though they may not have a very good selection) your local mainstream bookstore.

We are in the bible belt here and we still have many shops and one wonderful occult shop that is apart from the rest. And a lot of people talk of England as being more tolerant of the Old Religion and Paganism in general.

We live deep in the Bible belt, in rural Tennessee, but there are pagans everywhere. There is at least one metaphysical shop in every city. Even in the small towns the shops give out free calendars with the moon phases and signs listed because the old timers garden by the "signs". Most book stores sell tarot cards. Just look around, go to a Ren Faire, many of the booths are run by pagans.

Almost all of the bookstores in our area carry tarot cards. Many of them stock more than one type...

We are lucky to be in an area abundant with occult shops, metaphysical stores and goth dens. We are in the bible belt as well, but things are a changin' :D
