View Full Version : Reiki in pregnancy

I was in a discussion today with another who told me that giving a Reiki attunement to a woman who is pregnant is not wise because supposedly the attunement goes straight to the unborn child (because apparently this is the area that needs Reiki the most), therefore when the child is born, the attunement basicly leaves the mothers body all together and stays only with the child. I am not certain if I believe this, so can anyone fill me in?
Also.. what are your opinions when it comes to "bartering" for an attunement?

I doubt that very much. I know quite a few pregnant women, who have received Reiki while pregnant and they have all benefitted from it. My belief is that, as with everything else, the mother and baby are connected while the baby is in the womb, and what benefits mother, will benefit baby. I believe that there is an exchange of everything- not only nutrients, but also energy and healing.

That was my thoughts too.

I agree with HorseCrow.
As for bartering for an attunement, I think *anything* goes, as long as both parties agree to it. That's what matters.

I would also have to agree with Horsecrow. I never heard of such a thing. In fact I would think that the pregnancy would open the mother up to more energy. As for batering there is nothing wrong with that. It is still an exchange of energy. I used to barter with my friend all of the time for reiki treatment. never an attunement though.

That was my original thought too. Thing is, when I was talking to this woman and I was telling her how I never seemed to 'feel' anything anymore and I was wanting to know if she could help me open my chakras because I thought that maybe they were blocked for some reason. She asked me a bunch of questions and when I told her that I was pregnant when I recieved my second attunement, she asked me why the Master would agree to give me one. Then she told me that the attunement went strait to the baby and basicly said that I didn't recieve any attunement at all. When I asked her if she knew anyone that might 're-attune' me for something other then $125, she said that in her opinion one should never barter for magick. That bartering for treatments was fine but one should always pay the 'asking price' for the actual attunement or any other magickal act for that matter. So basicly she wasn't interested in helping me unless I had the $$$$. And since I didn't, I was not worth her time. I truly felt she was giving me a line of crap and I sensed a lot of negativity coming from her ~shrugs~ I don't know why though because I had never met her before...

She should have the benefit of the doubt, but it sounds to me, like she was trying to use you, to make quick money, preying on your vulnerability of wanting to do the best for your baby. And if that is the case, I can only say; shame on her.

I can't think that a Reiki attunement during pregnancy could do anything but help.
Yeah, maybe the energy might go mostly do the baby, but if it does, then that's where it is needed the most. Remember that Reiki goes to the source of discomfort or illness, not always where we think the pain is. So the Reiki guides know better than we do what is needed.
As far as not getting attuned properly when pregnant, that's a load of crap. (I'll not mince my words :tongueout) What you need to attune someone is a steady flow from the hara line (chakras) of the person to be attuned. Unless that is blocked by something else going on in the body, or the person consciously or unconsciously resists, the attunment will take.
And bartering is a great solution in my opinion. Some people don't value something if they don't feel they've paid for it, so if they insist on paying, them let them trade or barter. I don't ask for remuneration, and will not accept money for attunements or healings (though I'll accept tips and give them to charity). A good example is my mother, who was able to trade legal advice for her Reiki I attunement from a friend. They both were happy with the bargain!

Always trust your instincts. Basically, you and baby were both initiated. That should prove interesting as the child grows up. Keep an eye out for the baby's energy changes.
I have met a few masters who were negative in nature. I am a Tera-Mai master and the lady who gave me my initiations was borderline in my opinion. She hadn't yet decided that the money was more important then the energy, but was heading that way. I didn't have any troubles, but I went ahead and took a re-initiation from Katheen Milner herself.
What you may need is just a simple clearing. Try doing that before going to a full re-initiation. The clearings the initiation give are much stronger, but it may not be necessary to put your body through that.
Bartering for any type of energy work be it magick or otherwise is not a bad thing. It is between the giver and receiver as to how it works out.

Glad I came upon this when I did! I'm currently pregnant and about to receive me attunements (woo hoo!). I was actually wondering a similar question: Not that the attunements wouldn't stay with me, but rather would they also be passed onto Jr.
I don't think the woman you talked to sounds very reasonable, and youd think a master would know what they were doing when they gave you attunments while pregnant.

I have attuned pregnant women with no problems, either to them or the baby. In fact, the way I do my attunments, not only is Mom attuned, so is the child. I'm godmother to one of those children and she has always had a special connection to me since birth and I think this is the main reason why.
I barter for attunements all the time.

the only way for the attunement to go striaght to the baby is if the baby chakras were attuned which if they did your chakras live, would be impossible for the child would still be in your womb.
they might think of attuning the still developing baby in your womb long distance but I dont' think the ethicial consideration of free will and choice would be taken into account.
it is true when you are attuned the live force increase naturally flow through the chord to give the baby all the life force it needs.
but the baby wouldnt' be initiate for the child guides, or soul would stop it.
as for the matter of barting nothing wrong with it if you dont' want to go to attunement share and take a free long distance attunement. (you would have to do your own study and keep in mind, attuenements do not make one instant master of the reiki itself )

my comment about the baby not being attuned was applicable to traditional attunement of hayashi/hatawaka style
and not in refernce to your changed attunement style.

Yes, my attunement does change for a pregnant woman. And the mother, father and I discussed it in-depth before hand.
