View Full Version : Charging for Reiki Attunements...

Do all people charge for attunements? I have been trying to get attuned for some time, but my family just doesn't have the money to pay for 200 or 300 dollar attunements!

Anyone have any ideas as to what I may be able to do?

(And I know someone is going to say "Well deer, save up!" but unbelieveable as it may sound, I can't. I put any money I get my hands on into my Camino Fund, so that when I am 18 I can walk the Santiago de Compestella Camino in Spain, a 550 mile trail that goes along the leylines of the Earth. *laughs* I even made myself sick because I was saving my lunch money instead of eating! And I really need to go, so that I can get away from a bad situation at home)

So, does everyone charge that much for attunements? Is there no way to learn for free?

This is the main reason for my not liking Reiki: most people I know ask a lot of money.

Meh, I'm just an ideallist.

I have pm'd you a link for free long distance attunements..I don't believe you need to pay through the nose or get them in person...if you can send long distance healing...then sending the attunements is no different...

There are lessons you need to do..but the attunement is free...

Blessings,

No, you don't need to pay. There are plenty of people who will offer free attunements if you look around a bit. I would never let someone offer me their time like that without giving a little something in return, though. I personally like to receive a small donation for my time, especially as I have very little income otherwise! But... I have, and will gladly offer free attunements.

try this:
release the wish into universe and let go.

eventually the teachers will find you

maybe it is a kind of test of faith or path attunement by universe. karma does that often: its that "are you sure its your path" test :sailing:

I paid $45 for the first attunement, traded for the second and third. I often give attunements for free, but like moonstonedream would like to recieve a little "something" for my time . I am always open for trades. You might try asking those who offer the attunements if they'll trade.

I know that there are a few that offer their time. And if it were not for that I would have to say that I would not be a Reiki Master.
It was gifted to me as well. And when the time was right she was standing right in front of me. It was a true gift. And one that I will treasure it for all time.
Patients, ask for the teachers to be there for you. If being a healer is something that needs to happen soon. Trust me it will happen.
I really believe that the more healing we can all get out there, the faster we can heal the planet and ourselves. I wish you luck......
Blessings

I was trying to think of what to say about the question of charging for Reiki and then came across these quotes in my email--what lovely serendipity!

"We cannot hold a torch to light another person's path without brightening our own." - Ben Sweetlan

"Every human being has an obligation to return to this planet and to all our relations the sound of beauty, the power of prayer, the sense of harmony." – Dhyani Ywahoo

Perhaps understanding and honoring the above is really payment enough?

Yes, I can understand charging for the cost of materials, travel, and to cover the price of a rented room, of course. :) I certainly could not afford to cover all those costs myself. But oftentimes it is quite possible to go into the home of a poverty-stricken woman and teach her about Reiki, and give attunements, and share some materials all for free. Reiki has become a middle-class people thing, and the mistaken belief that we teachers "deserve" money for sharing is one of the reasons behind that. "Now I know Reiki, I can go make money." It is very sad.
Reiki is starting to make inroads into very poor communities, based entirely on the loving work of Reiki Masters who share for free. There is much that Reiki can do in the world, and those teachers understand that sharing it is payment enough. Doing good is its own reward. Usui said Reiki should be shared freely; Takata & others turned it into a cash cow. That was an evil legacy they left us, and one that we must overcome. Please think about this.

Peace,
Lena

Warning, this is a rant due to the seemingly popular thought practice of never charging for reiki and or saying it is wrong. moondeer, good luck there are teachers out there and I know grassroots reiki si a list I used to belong to and I don't remember the others or I'd post them.

Ok I'm going to go with the unpopular road and say that I can understand and agree that ppl can charge money for reiki. It really urks me when ppl say that you shouldn't charge for tarot or reiki or psychic readings, its another service. Doctors heal, they charge more then I feel they should, but they charge, should we say its wrong for them to charge also? What about energy exchange? I have also noted that some ppl who get readings and healings for free take it for granted. I was taught that ppl started to charge because the ppl who recieved the attunements took it for granted and did not honor it. When ppl have to exchange they hold it a higher worth. Reiki is special, but choosing to have it means to walk a road of honor and ideals, and not just have something cool that you use once in a while.

I am a reiki master and I have paid for all my attunements. They were very cheap due to my low budget, I understand this problem. Would I give an attunement to someone who really needed it who could not afford it? yes. Have I given sessions for free? pretty much all of them. Have I felt that my reiki/healing was dishonored after they didn't pay yes. there was no thanks even though they asked, and no appreciation. In fact I worked with one individual who took advantage of me over this. So Though I wish those well who look for a free teacher, I do not believe that reiki should always be free.

:hailmol: to you shamanfeather. very well spoken.

i agree 100%

i dont give out reiki most of the time, but do other kinds of energy work
i do think it is ok to charge for the service
you talked about doctors

i will talk about hair dressers, or car technicians, or whatever.

in this world, we have to pay money for services. if my car needs to be fixed, i cannot go by a smile and a greateful thought. i need to pay the bill. my appartment must be paid for, my current, my water etc.

I have studied long and hard, and i have not only paid money for my education, but at the same time I have been only working part time to have the time to dedicate myself to my studies.

now, i am offerering my skills and talents to people who need them.
there people give me money.

you would never dispute that a hair dresser should get paid, although they dont have much material they need. or an attorney, or a machanic. or a school teacher. they all get paid. and they all are expected to pay if they need my kind of service.

i dont see anything wrong in that.

but i too zhave met many, who say they cant afford it, but once they get something for free dont value it. well. so i rather charge for my good services. thus people at least valueate what they received.

ooh and dont think pagans were any better, and they would value your gifts. they actually dont. in fact they even expect more of you, because it is so "bad" charging for such stuff.

I used to do a free tarot reading night online in chats. the rule was easy. i charged no money. it was 1 Question per person and day. I asked the people to make a donation to a animal shelter near them.
some people told me: ooh thats good, because i have made one last week, so now i neednt to pay
another one asked more than one question. i told her: please, be fair, if you need an additional reading, paypal me for a charged reading. she said: why? I will just come in next time you do them for free.

see, i cannot pay my rent and groceries next time they will offer them free, cause they never do. I must pay my dues, and people who want my services must pay theirs

I respect your right to say what you have said. I am sorry that you have been done wrong, and I am glad that you don't charge an outrageous amount for your attunments. I believe that the reason for this thread was not necessarily to get free attunments, but because it was too difficult for MoonDeer to afford the prices that have been asked. Charging high amounts can lead to keeping Reiki for the "elite".

I am not saying that you shouldn't charge for services, but you should consider the financial health as well as the physical and spiritual health of those you serve. Just my 2 thin pieces of copper.

I agree about charging insane amoutns and I probably shouldn't have deviated, but I do wish him well finding him someone to attune himself. I have referred friends to a place that attune for free but I can't remember what it was or I'd supply it.

I do believe that various states of the individual also matters when considering services for free. If they are really in need then of course I have no problems with it. and I do send energy to those who need it without cost.

So basically I agree with you. :)

Thank you all for your imput, it has really made me think. Sorry if I didn't make this clear, I am perfectly willing to trade services or something for attunements, it was just that I cannot afford money. Love to you all, I'll go see what the universe pionts me to do.

Some people believe you don't need to be attuned to the energy, as it is mostly done with intention, the universe knows all and it is free for all who want to channel into it. I share this view as my personal belief is that the universal energy is out there for everyone and you don't need to be attuned to heal, but I also believe that an attuenment opens up the chakras to the energy, helping you to become sensitive to it. I think it all depends on how important it is to you, some people feel they need the attunement, while others are naturally able to sense the energy and heal without an attunement, like they were born with the knowledge.

I think www.naturallythere4you.com still give a free attunement and lessons to Reiki I.

I agree that the fees for attunements by certain individuals are very high, and therefore limit the ability of people to receive them. However, I also do not believe in totally free attunements, as the people receiving them don't seem to appreciate them as much because they didn't have to give up anything of value. I feel that you should give something to get something...that's only fair.

attunement do not make instant reiki master

all they do is allow you to channel the universal energy through you more, and if you got a free master attunement, allow you to attune others.

I took all my attuenments on line and never took a class of reiki.
(by the way you can look at attunementshare keyworld search, and there are several reiki attunements being handed out for 20 dollars on ebay)
yet I had years of study in the chakra system, and studied hands on healing.
and what i did after I was attuned was used the manual given to me and applied them to pratical study.(which was me sending the reiki to other people).

however there are systems that i was attuned to that i cant for the life of me remember their symbols, though i have them on the computer. and sat for days trying to memorize them.
I got the master attunements for them, but i wouldnt' call myself an ra sheeba master, nor violet flame reiki master.
other systems i took to like duck to water, karuna ki and sciem, and kundalini reiki. and let not forget traditional hataka reiki.

on a differnt subject any new reiki mater or reiki mater who believes that dr usai came to the states to learn about christianity, was a christian, that there were no reiki masters in japan like Takata claims should read these books.
the spirit of reiki especially
the reiki sourcebook
http://www.reiki.org/CurrentTopics/history/truehist.html
and this website for some history of reiki as well

still while if i went by the criteria i am about to say,, i am only a takata master.
1. knows for sure how to pass attunements without any doubt
2. knows all the symbols, what they do , (i cant' for the life of me spell them or say them so i just call them the power symbol, emtonial healing symbol, mental healing, and spiritual healing symbol
for a good book on passing attunements
pick up steve murray ultimate rieki book or video(i never watc his video nor took a video attunement).

attunements shouldn't be 10,000 for master, and i sincerly believe those days for those prices are at an end.
yet consider how much time you invest in passing your attunement a kundalini reiki attunement is pass like in a 3 minutes and so requires no additional time.
usai reiki would take more time so it isn't above my accepted norm to accept payment of 20 to 30 dollars.

now for reiki training
which is differnt then having reiki attunement for you are investing your own time in training them and getting them used to using symbols.
once i attuned a person for free , sent them the manual and told them what books to get and how to study. I sent them 6 manuals all of them for free on the net which i collected over the year.
the person email me, I dont' have time to read the manual for the reiki system, let alone all these pages of manual. i told them read the short manual 15 minute a day and apply it til you understand it,, then go to the detail manual.

they email me back i dont' have money for these books. well i told the person it would help them i they got the book over time.

the last two examples did happen, and it goes to prove while some things in life are free, some people expect everything like that *snaps figners*

I alwasy use the example if i am making my life as a healer i will expect to get paid, for that is my livihood, but until then i will keep offering things for free as i learn my other systems for until I master my other system how can i charge attunements for them?

which problay brings up another point about reiki
should people charge for the reiki itself, many say it is offered for free,
but if you sit there doing it for a living, giving half hour long treatments,
how else are you going to make a living ,, go on welfare while doing reiki?

I am not saying pull a sylvia brown and charge 700 for a reading translated here into a healing
I am not advocating equal energy exchange either.
I am advocating that one needs money to live so fair prices should be expected.:)
