View Full Version : The same old question...

I'm searching for my patron deity and one question have crossed my mind.
Few years ago, I was drawn to war goddesses and "constroversial" gods: Loki, Brighid, Freya and so on - rather belligerent aspects. Now, preparing for the marriage, I think of Hestia and goddesses of hearth and family. I've realized that THIS is the most important and long term goal in my life: to become a wife and a mother and create a warm, cozy home, open for my relatives and friends. The point is, on some life's stages you seek totally different values: year ago I would choose Bastet (for my obsession with cats! :D), Freya or Aphrodite (I'm still very sensual and romantic, although I associate these goddesses more with purely sexual relationships - no offence, it's just my POV), now - hearth and family deities. And in future - who knows what life brings and which values I will seek...
Do you work with different patrons in various situations and on different stages? Or do you stick to one? Or maybe you stay with your patron deity, but call for help from other gods, having different "competensions"? None of the above? :)

That's pretty good question.. and I would say as your life changes so would the patron god and goddesses.. it makes sense to me.
I too am looking into Hestia. From what I have read she sounds very warm and loving..something to have in my life.

Most people who have a patron god seem to stick with one God as far as I hear. However that does not mean that you do not work with other gods. Its sort of like having a best friend (patron) You have a best friend but doesn't mean that they are your only friend. Also many people stay in the same pantheon of their patron but not always.

Well, I've got Aset, Sebek and Djehuty looking out for me, which is quite enough. I hope they stay with me my whole life, but it's up to Them. If Them move on, I don't think it'll be for a while yet. I wouldn't go to any other Gods with issues not historically given to Them because They are my Gods, and if I can't put any problem in Their hands, to me, it's almost like saying that I don't trust Them with some things, and that isn't conducive to building a relationship of trust. That's just how I see things.

bright blessings,
argent

Frigg has came to me as the ideal mother and hearth keeper. I want to be loving wife and mother, and to be wise, strong and somehow independent, as I picture Frigg. When I saw certain artwork dedicated to her, I felt if I face old and very good friend, forgotten years ago and now appearing in my life again :) Incredible feeling... Not to mention some signs, found long ago and now at last explained! :D

Aset has been with me for almost a year, and Nefertem not too much shorter than that. I ask them for help before anyone else. Set and Nebt-Het pop in from time to time, and I wouldn't mind asking them about something either; if it was dealing with one of their strong spots. Otherwise, the only other Name I've actually gone to for help is Het-Hert(with time of the month problems), and that was because Aset nudged me that way. I'm not sure if I answered your questions, but I hope so :p
