I was wondering if anyone knew of a good website that had a extensive list of crystals and their uses/meanings??
Also, I am interested in making my own pendulum for divination..any ideas??

thanks

well i`m re-doing my website.
But a good website on crystals would be Czechwood's site. Just check out any of his posts.
His weblinks are in his signature section.

As far as the pendulums. Easiest way is to take a small piece of quartz and tie or glue a string to it.

this site also has some really exstensive information

http://www.metaphysical-store.com/contentpages/referencelibrary/crystalandstoneindex.htm

as for making a pendulum, you can do a simple wire wrap that you can then attach a chain to, just a little craftiness needed

of course: ask the stone FIRST whether it wants to become a pendulum

i have an amethyst crystal that i got years and years back. Its never been lost, always stuck around. I finally made it into a necklace, then had the idea of making it into my pendulum. It totally blew me away since i'd never used one before. I changed the chain and now its being weird. Does the chain matter?

everything matters

did you cleanse the stone between changes ?

unfortunately not. i guess i forgot to since the chain i had before was a cheap gold imitation, and i thought the silver chain i had would look better. i changed the chain back since it just feels right no matter on the looks. i'm gonna cleanse it again tomorrow morning, since its really late and i'm sleepy  one more question: wats the best way to cleanse an amethyst?

thanks for the help! :nonono:

IMO the chain only matter if it is so to you. But... If the chain is heavy, bulky, over enlarged or if the chain is rusted in a way it prevents liquid movement then yes of course it matters. : )

CzechWoods I agree w/you everything matters. To me if the chain does not feel right that feeling will stick with me giving a hindrance to my ablility to clear my mind effectively.

the chain is fine expect the kind of fading that fake gold does. other than that, i feel better with it on than the other one. so i'll cleanse again... :)

It really helps though that I started wearing the amethyst when i started my diet/exercise regime. coincidence really, since i really didn't read too much about the crystal except that its my birth stone, but i had wondered why i had stronger will power to stay on my diet and not drink so much. i haven't had alcohol in 2 weeks and usually i can't go a weekend w/o it. yay! thanks!

i would put the pendulum on a bed of hematite stones
ideally on new moon and full moon
overnight (ca 8 hrs each)

pendulums need less cleansing to my experience

but once per year should be donme

also have apouch for the pendulum or a box
and
do not carry it on your body

......and do not carry it on your body

I don't understand. Why?

I intend to make a pendant out of a few soon to be had pendulums. I really like the shape. : )

I had heard or maybe read somewhere that quartz makes a good pendulum.. I bought a quartz stone cuz I loved the color and now want to make it into my pendulum.. if its ok with that. So to make a long statement short, is quartz ok for a general pendulum??

Thanks

lets put it this way:
many people use clear quartz as their general pendulum.

because contrary to tarot cards the pendulums take your vibes very easily

after carrying your pendulum with you, you are likely not to get the
*objective* answers
but those you wish to hear

Chesna

but many people use also other quartz stones

there are two ways choosing a pendulum, basically

one is where you pick it up and ask it if it would like being your pendulum or something
and one where you go by mind set

than it varies on what mind set you have for the choice of your general pendulum:

some peoplesay: the world is all about love.
so they take rosequartz

some people say: clear quartz is generally a good stone for clarification, meditation, divination etc, so I ll stick with clear quartz

some people say: amethyst is the stone to connect you with divine and also your 3rd eye, it is a spirituality stone: so purple quartz aka Amethyst it will be

some people will use somekey quartz for the reason, of it is more mysterious than clear quartz, also looking for things that want to stay secluded ...

other will prefer a lot of other stones for lots of other good reasons:
lapis
aventurine
agate
sodalite
rutilized (angelheair/faeryhair) quartz
natural citrine
schorl (black tourmaline)
aktinolite quartz
snake skin jasper
serpentine
jade
fire agate
gold-stone, brown
gold-stone, indigo
obsidian
hematite
fluorite
tigers eye
bloodstone
jasper...
etc

(all of which i stock as pendulums, btw)

Maybe people will decide against a stone and prefer metal pendulums
of silver
brass
copper
gold
darkened, polished, brushed etc etc.
or glass
or glass with stone filling

or a pottery made pendulum

there is reason for every choice.

i say, go by your feeling
and also ask the stone/pendulum

what it will serve you best for.

should i mention i have like 8 different pendulums for different purposes ?`???

etc.

or they will choose :bumpsmili

I even saw wood pendulums.

CzechWoods

I even saw wood pendulums.

which is correct

D'oh: i have several on stock and forgot them

they are good beginners pendulums,
the wood itself of course has some own vibes, but they are more transcending then with stone or metal

which it makes eaier (often) for beginners to handle them

a slight flaw is, they are very light
and they most often come hanging on a cord

I bought a crystal pendulum two weeks ago. It's hanging in the window over the head of my bed. I thought that maybe the moon and my dreams would charge it up nicely.

Lately I've been having a lot of trouble sleeping. There's an anxious tightness in my chest and back. Until reading this thread I didn't even consider that the pendulum could be the cause. Any thoughts?

What kind of crystal is it? Did you attempt to take it away for a week?

What kind of crystal is it? Did you attempt to take it away for a week? Thanks for responding. I had to call the store where I bought it to find out just now. It's fluorite. It's cut like a gemstone with six sides, wider at the top, elongated and the bottom comes to a point. The point is lavender, the color moving up through the stone in streaks. There's a small, almost unnoticeable streak of lavender across the top. Otherwise, it's an aquamarine green. Very pretty.

I've only had it for two weeks and the sleeplessness started this week, so I haven't taken it down yet. I've had a lot of work stress at a time when I'm anxious to start other projects at home. So it could be that. I took a nap just now to make up for my insomnia last night and my sleep was perfectly restful and peaceful. It's only at night that I feel like my chest and back are trying to ulcerate with anxiety and stress.

Somethings up, I just don't know what.

"Fluorite
Helps bring order to chaos. A powerful healing stone it also helps calm the over excitable. Strengthens the bones and teeth"

I just looked up the above definition. Maybe without my pendulum I'd be going stark raving mad.

I've had a fluorite 'wand' (for lack of a better word, though that's not at all what it is) on my headboard for while now and have had lots of sleep issues. After reading your posts, I moved the fluorite and replaced it with a smoky quartz sphere my son gave me; I did this 3 nights ago, and I have had the BEST 3 nights of sleep in ages. I even had dreams I could remember (this NEVER happens)!!

*jig of joy*

In reference to the fluorite issues, fluorite stimulates mental activity. I would not be surprised at sleep troubles if you keep it near you while you sleep, it may just stretch your mind beyond what is healthy and create a type of mental hyper-tension.

When you are asleep the last thing you need is for your mind to be racing. The purpose of sleep is to rest and recooperate, not influencing your mind to continue working at full speed.

Edit: Also, any tool can be imbued with the practitioner's own energy. This can be detrimental or it cannot be, it depends on the practitioner. Some people find that their energy overpowers the tool, others find it only serves to enhance it. I would not view the tarot or a pendelum as any different in this respect, naturally. If the individual has enough skill to remain adequately objective I sincerely doubt it would adversely affect any divination tool. It certainly has never affected mine and throughout history people have often used a piece of jewelry they wore (attaching a string if need be when the time comes to use it) to make a pendelum, much like people set up temporary altars only when needed.

'Mind racing'...understatement of the decade. ;) I'd be so tired I couldn't see straight, but yet my mind would NOT stop going and going and going...like that blasted pink bunny. *L*

Oh that brings back horrific images. I suspect I will not be able to sleep well tonight now.
