I have. Why are you "phasing out" of it?

No I haven't, but I'd love to hear about it! I'm writing this book, kinda a fantasy typre novel, and one of my groups of wizards are Blue Star mages. Once again, I thought I made something up that already exists...*sigh* I'm gonna have to change so many things in my book so I won't get sued!
So what is Blue Star? Got any web links or anything?

I was raised in it.. I left it for a long while, went back to see things with my own eyes. What I saw I did not like. What I thought had ended, has obviously not. The parents left the once children of the faith with many scars, that it seems most have not healed from, and infact have determined to inflict upon the newer generation of the trad.
It's become like a pegotory for the lost and hurt to be manipulated and twisted. I saw "the game" and decided best to get out and move on before it claimed me.
It just saddens me because people I care for are still involved... and getting crushed.
*le sigh*
I was kinda wondering if anyone else's view of it is different.
If they have actually seen working groups that don't hurt each other\turn on each other.

The people who would do the sueing are too self involved currently to even notice such a thing as a book with charachters called "blue star mages"
aside from that.. blue star really doesn't do "magick" in the norm. format.
Mage is not a term a Blue Star person would associate with the trad.

What was it about it that was so bad? You said something about many scars... Is the tradition itself bad, or just the particular group you're associated with going batty?

Uhm that stuff could happen with any trad anywhere... more a result of the people then the trad itself.

Normally I would agree, and for the most part I do. Not ALL B* people are bad or batty...
But I've been in the B* circuit for 12-14 years now... and not just in the area I live currently. I'm also on the mailing list. For the past 4 years, I've really been watching, hoping to see change. Even trying to help it get there. But it's really out of control around here specifically now. I hope its not reaching elsewhere. Like I said before.. I'm hoping someone else has seen something different. So far.. all the North East\East Coast B* peeps have been "infected" except for those who have "seen the light" and left.
The part that is bad is the part where they turn this into a back patting elitist society.. and you can't get in the club unless you are willing to fork over your dignity and get used and manipulated for a couple years. And I really mean that as it sounds..
I've been saved from a lot of the bad stuff because of my parents associations with B* clergy in the area, and the fact that my priest who actually has GOOD intentions, has known me since I was 4 years old. If he had not, there is no doubt in my mind that when I came of age, more of the group would have tried their hand at seduction or bashing of my will more directly.
There are a lot of GOOD teachings, and a lot of GREAT stuff to work from in B*... it's the people that are twisting it, and I don't think they really see it. It's blinded them.. The beauty and feeling of joy one gets when they hear "teach me" "i need you" "you have so much wisdom".. has seemingly clouded their judgement.
You know one of the first signs of insanity is repeating the same behavior expecting different results..
Pergatory... it's like having a choose your own adventure book and never choosing an alternate path, even though you crave a new ending.

Sounds pretty bad...I'm a solitary myself, so I really don't follow any specific tradition... Maybe that's what you need to do...go off on your own. Take the good with you, do whatever feels right in your own heart, and try to leave behind the ones that have twisted what you say are good teachings. I'm not saying literally up and leave the people themselves, unless you feel that's what you have to do. I'm saying have more of a live and let live type attitude. Stick to what feels good to you, try not to let the bad get at you so much. Sometimes the best way to make changes is to lead by silent example. I wish you the best...

I'm not "phasing out" because of all the shit. I really liked the teachings of blue star. But I also found they weren't for me. I'm FAR too spiritual vs. relgious to really adhere to all it's rules and regulations.
I found my "religion" quite literally dancing at the beach with my best friends this summer *in the middle of the night under a fullbellied moon no less*
Thanks for the suggestions.. very good advice.. exactly the advice i followed in fact. my mother said the same thing! *winks*

i still don't understand what "blue star" is and how it differs from any other "tradition" in wicca and why you feel it was so exploitive. Was there some sort of forced sexuality or something??
i don't mean to be nosey... just that wicca to me is so strong and beautiful... so healing and affirming. Our Circle is such a good, strong, supportive and nurturing experience.... It would be so tragic if The Craft is being twisted and abused to manipulate and indoctrinate....
Is there a web site or a book or some way i could research what Blue star wicca is supposed to be all about?? bb talamh

Why not come over to TradWicca at Yahoo! Clubs? There may be someone there who can answer your questions.

Yes, search Yahoo! for Blue Star Wicca - there's tons of information out there if you take a look.
And yes in this case I'm certain that it wasn't the tradition that was exploitive, but that the people who practiced it in that person's area who were.

It's the people in this area. But like I said, it's kinda infectious.
You know how if a child grows up being abused they have a choice to continue the pattern, stop the pattern, or conciously do exactly the opposite?
Well continuing the pattern seems to be the trend out here. It's very fubar.
I love a lot of the people, I've just noticed that they are "unhealthy", and or "stuck".
I am not the only person in my particular group\area to notice it and realize that now is simply not the time to be too close or too involved with the trad. There's a lot of hurt and healing that has to occur before the peeps here can really get out of the pattern.
But it's gonna be acerbic for anyone new, or "not in the game" for sometime.
And yes there is tons of information... the reoccuring name "Devyn Gillette" is that of my fathers... if you wanted to read about Asatru he's written an essay that's mass referred to out there on the web.
Anyway, i need sleep...
and its 3am. I'm fubar!

I'm a Blue Star Student on the West Coast. So far, there doesn't seem to be any more Witch Wars going on than in any other Tradition or Coven. But I would appriciate hearing any warnings from you as to what to look out for.

I circled with Devyn's Toronto coven once. Seemed like an ok group to me, and I'm still interested in the tradition. Makes me wonder what exactly is going on that you feel the need to leave, and declare it publicly.
