I was meditating and this fragment kinda got thrown at me from the great beyond. I thought that maeby it would make more sense to you seems how i'm just starting to work with runes...

They [the runes] are not an idle plaything like painted cards; runes are the gift of Odin's blood. Yew is the traditional wood. Cut them strong and upon straight branches. In honor of the All Father's sacrifice, stain them with your own blood. If they have been gifted to you, clense them in flowing waters. Bless them and hang them for nine days and nights on the sacred tree. Feed them of your hearts blood as the All Father did. After the perscribed time, present them to Odin for his blessing.

Thirteen of the runes rank chief, for the Gods of high Askgard. One for each month of the year. These glyphs also hold within the keys of the ancient magic of Runemal, for this reason you are to tread with care.

Can you help me make sense of this?

...I'll have to think about this, & get back to you...

What's Runemal?

From what I've been able to find out in my reaserch, it's another way of describing the casting and inscribing of runes for magic. The primary use was for healing, blessings, and curses. At least, that's what I can find. <shrugs>

OK, I'm gonna take this kinda line by line...

They [the runes] are not an idle plaything like painted cards; I agree with this. When you carve a Rune (or Runecharm) you are creating a 'living' magical thing.
...runes are the gift of Odin's blood. Hmm... Well, of Odin's sacrifice, for sure... I think that's what's being implied here.
Yew is the traditional wood. It's a traditional wood, yes. Fruit-bearing trees in general, birch, oak, ash, elm... there are many.
Cut them strong and upon straight branches. In honor of the All Father's sacrifice, stain them with your own blood. Seems self-explanatory. I can find no argument with it.
If they have been gifted to you, clense them in flowing waters. Bless them and hang them for nine days and nights on the sacred tree. Feed them of your hearts blood as the All Father did. After the perscribed time, present them to Odin for his blessing. I know of no basis for this in either Lore or Tradition, but again, I can offer no argument against it. Maybe this is a personal message for you to follow.

Hmm... I recall 12 Gods & Goddeses in Asgard... don't really know exactly what to make of this last part, but will continue to think on it (I'll also throw it up to the Mad Vitiki).

Umm... this isn't the same as the Wolf father is it? I think I've been the butt of his sense of humor a few times. <shakes her head> When ever I mention him directly, something surreal but strangely amusing happens. I think I've enough surrealism in my life at the moment, though a part of me think's I'm tempting fate. :D

Your perspective on this helps alot, Rick. I wasn't sure if this was something that made no sense to some one that works with runes more then I do so I thought that I'd toss that out to you. :)

:) No, the Mad Vitiki is a (usually silent) member here, & my Rune mentor.
