I knew I had a gas bill but they hadn't sent me anything in the mail and I called them up and they said the out standing balance is from Nov until now! Omg.. she says they were going to come by last night but didnt have time and I had to pay it today. I said to the lady I couldnt pay today and she said I had to pay by monday or my gas is cut off. The dryer and stove and heat is gas. Now im screwed. Energies please!!!! :wah:

I will send energy but I have advice. If you live in the US ( I forgot to look b4 I replyed) you may be able to apply for assistance tohelp pay part or all of that bill. I used to wok in the state welfare ( I hate that word so I use assistance) office. From oct to April 15th the cold weather rule is ineffect due to our cold winter weather. if you live in a state where that can happen that maybe what happened to you. Anywho, in our state and ithink most states have something like this we have emergency assistance you willhelp for emergencies, and gas shut off is especially if you have small children or a disability and there is also energy assistance. To make this not so long, call your local county office to speak to the assistance dept. find out what programs may be available to you!

I will be sending all energy I can.

Blessings,

Chesna

That's horrid! I agree, give them a call back and see if they will set up a payment plan, most companies would rather do that then have the hassel of going out to shut things off. I would also tell them that they had not been sending out the bills to you, that isn't your fault... :geez:

Will think good thought fo ya _pounce_

I wish. If they had a payment plan I wouldnt want to die right now. I hadnt gotten any of my bills because there was an error with canada post where they got a piece of paper saying i didnt live at my place anymore. Its fixed now but I have a heavfy fee to pay for my gas. Is it possible to go without gas for a few months? Any ideas??? :bigredblu

ACK! That bill is scary! How cold is it in Canada right now????? The stove, if you have a camp stove (or can afford to buy one) and microwave could probably go a long way....if you have room in your apt/house to hang a clothes line somewhere, might help with the dryer issue, but if your pipes are still at risk of freezing, the heat is a major problem, besides the fact that you all will obviously be cold...unless maybe you could borrow a space heater? --they can be dangerous though, so be careful if you do! ENERGY is being sent....geesh, i hope they will work with you or you find an agency that can help!

That sucks LadyT, Ill be thinking of you.
I had that happen to me last winter...I begged them not to turn it off (over 100 bucks), I told them I have a young daughter with a heart condition, I cant have no power...they said tough shit...christmas was like 3 days away even! They wouldnt even wait for my next payday, thank god for my parents, they lent me the money for a few days....the really crappy thing is, it all depends on who you get on the other end of the line, you get a nice lady who cares about people and she'll stretch that 2 days to 4...get a bitch on the other end and it seems they go out of their way to find a way to screw you...and I hate the fact that the only place you can get hydro is from BC hydro...isnt that monopolizing or something wrong like that?

anyways...Good luck to you, I know what a nightmare bills can be!

Thank's guys.
I think I might do what was said.. I might put up some rope and use it to dry clothes. I've thought of washing clothes in the tub too but I cant seem to find a wash board anywhere!! Im going to use my microwave until the gas gets turned back on. I am going to borrow a habatchi from my friend and cook things that arent good for making in the microwave! Thanks for all your ideas! You guys are wonderful!! :hugz:

Make sure you have the window open a crack while using a hibachi in the house-I know it'll let soem cold air in, but you need to keep fresh air coming in if there's anything combustable burning. Also try the Salvation Army-in the US they have emergency funds for fuel assistance, I don't see why it would be any different in Canada. They may have some suggestions too {{hugs}}}

I wouldnt use it in the apartment ROFL. I would take it to the balcony. Were not allowed to have a REAL BBQ because were on the 7th floor. But we have pretty nice weather now so it should be okay.
I'm trying NOT to go crazy right now. Maybe I should drown my self in a tub of ice cream. Someone want to buy me a litre of chocolate chip cookie dough?

I have hung cloths to dry in my house already. Drying cloths isnt that big of a deal. But you dont have to wash them in the tub, just use cold water. Washing machines run only on electric!

Next time, even if you dont get a bill, you still have to pay on time. Sorry you have to go through this hassle now but at least it isnt the middle of January and freezing cold!!! :)

In the US if you have a child a lot of times their dr will write a letter stating that the power needs to be on. Check if the carrier in Canada does that then call the dr and see if they are willing to write a letter. Point out it is a medical nessesity that you be able to cook for the child. It may or may not help but is worth a try.

I'm afraid that this is all the help I can really give you besides sending you some energy to help you make it through this problem.

In Ontario, Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program

recipients may be eligible for emergency assistance benefits,

discretionary benefits and/or community start up benefits, which may

be used for various energy emergencies depending on the particular

fund. There are also several charitable organizations

in Canada, such as the Salvation Army and Share the Warmth, which

provide once per year assistance to low income households that are

facing an energy crisis.
