A friend of mine sent me this email, after attending a dinner for the Nassau County (NY) Bar Association dinner. I'm ignoring the part of it that says what Europe knew, or didn't know, about the events of Sept 11th, because IMO, the point is moot now. However, the information she provided, as far as things to be alert for, seems like good advice to me.

There was a FEMA employee sitting at my table who told us that it was widely
known in Europe that NY was going to be hit with the terrorist attack. It
was not known what but the day it was to happen was known.
Also, she said that Verizon, Time Warner and U-Haul have been reporting a
rash of thefts of their trucks. She advised that we keep our eyes out for
people working in the streets and notify the authorities to come on out and
make sure its a legitimate repair/construction. Also, there is a deep
concern about truck bombs because air safety has improved.
Please give parked trucks a second or third look especially parked in high
population areas, around court houses, schools, museums, high rise buildings,
etc.
Don't be afraid to call the FBI-
they are taking everyone seriously. Call the local office whenever you see
something or someone that looks or ACTS in an unusual fashion. Don't take
your vibes for granted.
Let the FBI decide whether something is worth their interest. I called the
FBI myself this week (my friend who is with the FBI was not available to me)
to report something and, I can assure you, they were polite, grateful,
respectful and interested.
We can all become the eyes and ears of national security.
