Well, theirs a thread in here about Pagans worshipping Jesus. Does anyone here follow/worship Allah/Muhammed/Buddha/Confucius,etc?

I do think that Allah is the same as God, which is the same as Ahura Mazda, same as HaShem, Supreme Consiousness, the One, Final Force etc. I think Buddha and Confucius are really wise, what about you? _tomatoe_

Well, lad, (by the way good to see you as always) I don't personally know anyone who "worships" buddha or confucius, but I know a few buddhists...and I agree with pretty much all of their assertions about the nature of existence. My brother (actually one of the five) is buddhist, and he is perhaps one of the most powerfully magickal people I know....he can assert/manipulate/empower things with energy like no one else I have ever seen. and Allah Is the same God as Jehova/Yaweh(spellings?) as far as I know...I am not sure who Ahura Mazda and HaShem are, forgive my ignorance, anyway, my point is, that I have often wondered if there are any folks who call themselves Islam-witches or the like, as you seem to be asking as well....but the eastern philosophies tend to be fairly A-theist, and /or do not generally worship a god called Buddha, or the like...

I don't think synthesis is possible here. The Koran states, 'There is no God but Allah and Mohammed is the prophet.' Once a person accepts this and becomes a Muslim they are no longer pagan. Should a Muslim pray to more than Allah, s/he is no longer Muslim.
Can anyone reconcile paganism with monotheism? I think we'd have to answer that question before tackling Islam which is vehemently monotheistic.

Can pagans be monothestic? If there is atheist pagans, why can't there be monothestic?

I'm pretty sure that you can be a monotheist Pagan, indeed, many forms of Wicca that emphasise that "All goddesses are one goddess, all gods one god, and there is one initiator" seem to be heading in that direction. I do not think that this is a form of monotheism which is compatible with that of Islam - while it is true to say that Allah and Jahweh, are, from one theological persepective, the same, there are substantial differences in the understandings - in Judaism, historically, there have been different ways of understanding, or thinking about the one divine reality - such as Kabbalah, or the idea of the "Holy Spirit", as well as numerous hypostases. In Islam however, the worst sin is Shirk, which is a complex idea which basically boils down to either viewing anything else other than Allah as worthy of worship, or indeed, seeing Allah as anything other than one (Tawheed). To place the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in this category, as seems to be implied in the first post here is, from a Muslim perspective utterly wrong. Muhammad was a man, a prophet (indeed, the final one of a long series of prophets, including Ibrahim, Nuh, and Isa - Abraham, Noah, and Jesus), but no more than that. One can sum this up in the words of Abu Bakr upon Muhammad's death - ""O people, verily , whosoever worshipped Muhammad, know that Muhammad is dead. But whosever worshipped Allah, know that Allah is alive"

Yeah, I meant "worship" for Allah and the like, and the words "Follow" for Buddha, heh. :toofless:

Well, I can speak from experiance because one of the most powerful magickally inclined people in my life was born a Muslim and goes to Mosgue! He worships Kali, infact he was the one who first introduced me to Kali and Hinduism, and yet...he;s a Muslim. He has never said nhe was anythign else, but doesnt talk too much about Islam. Allthough Islam is extremily Monothiestic (I believe they eliminated their old system of 99 names for Allah). However, that being said...Im going to throw a bone to you who dont think pagans or other spiritually minded people can be Muslim...what of Sufism, which is the mystical sect of Islam?...They worship Allah, but more as an all encompassing God...so to them, Adonai, Allah a,d God the Father, are all just anems for the same being. I have often suspected that my freind Rahim is Sufi, but I dont think so. He's just a mix...and can cook too ;). Although Islam is almost dangerously monotheistic...rememebr that Allah as a God was founded upon Pagan routes, just like most other traditions...who is to say that the old ways of the desert are not still kept by the Bedouins? But when you thinkk of it...those who are Pantheistic...especially those who follow certain forms of Hinduism on this board will undoubtedly think that Allah, Adonai, Brahman, Ahura Mazda, Jesus/God/Holy Spirit, Vahguru, and all other monothesitic Gods are merely names of the Ultimate which we all worship...regardless of name or form.

Namaste,

Tobias
