Well, the off call weekend is here......and guess where I went!
I went to IKEA!!
My friend and I got up early and made the 1 1/2 hour journey to Elizabeth, NJ (OMG!! I think I drank Jersey water!) and got there right as it opened.......good thing too, cus by 3:00 it was like an amusment park!
I had such a good time! And to think just a couple weeks ago I had no idea what Ikea was! Joe and I got about $500 worth of stuff packed into his little jeep wrangler..... and I do mean we packed it!!! It was a pretty uncomfortable ride home.
Anyways, I think that Ikea has obsessed me..................

I live within reasonable driving distance (half an hour) of not one, but TWO Ikea stores. Be jealous.

*Happy Dance!!* There's a new Ikea being built about 15 mins away from here! The old one is about an hour away & hard to get to from here. I can't wait!

Ok so I checked out the site...doesn't seem too different from other lines I have seen. Am I missing something? Maybe it is better viewed in person..??

I LOVE IKEA!
Semele - I think the closest one to you is Houston, TX.
I'm going to get furniture for my new house there and accessories of course. I can't wait! :T Of course now its a 5 hr drive for me, it was much better when I lived in Houston.

Yes, I'm yet another IKEA addict!!
Semele, I'm not sure what it is -- whether it's their catalogues, their stores, their furniture, their extras -- but there is an addictive quality to Ikea! I'm guessing you don't live near one?

I like Ikea.....I think part of the obsession with Ikea..is that a)the furniture is VERY durable, great quality...and B)the prices for the luxury, and the quality, is VERY affordable.
Honestly though, three of my "addictions" as far as stores go, are
"homegoods" (furniture, art, decore...kinda like a warehouse, though. Cheap markdowns for GREAT stuff), Christmas Tree Shops (THIS one is truly addictive for nick-nacks, decorations, etc)...and the Dollar Tree. Hehehehe. I love the Dollar Tree store for nicknacks, candles (how can you beat four taper candles for a dollar? Lower quality wax, yes...but..with as many candles as I go through.....), and little kitchen doodads, etc. Oh..and let me not forget PIER 1 Imports! I like Pier 1, because they blende old world and cultural styles with modern decore.
Personally..when we get a house, we want to get an old house, victorian. So..my decore will probably be old world decore, as well....colonial or victorian. But...I'm also contemplating some of the asian decore I see...:)

"I had become a slave to the IKEA nesting instinct. If I saw something like the clever Njurunda coffee tables in the shape of a lime green Yin and an orange Yang..
I had to have it
The Haparanda sofa group ...
... with the orange slip covers by Erika Pekkari. The Johanneshov
armchair in the Strinne green stripe pattern.
The Rislampa/Har lamps from wire and environmentally-friendly
unbleached paper.
The Vild hall clock of galvanized steel.
The Klipsk shelving unit.
I would flip and wonder, "What kind of dining room set *defines* me as a person?"
It used to be Playboys; now -- IKEA.
My hand-blown green glass dishes with the tiny bubbles and
imperfections, proof they were crafted by the honest, simple,
hard-working indigenous peoples of wherever."

...but maybe I'm biased since I'm Swedish :D. I go there to feel at home, the store here looks exactly like the store in my hometown in Sweden. They also have 'The Little Swede Shop' by the exit where I buy all my Swedish food that I can't get anywhere else.
