There was a mention of it in The Hobbit. I didn't like it, so i stopped at page 100, but the runes in there seemed authentic.

I've never heard of it before now, but I did a quick web search and found this site:

Hope it helps. :)

Only runes I have ever seen were related to the Middle Earth stories and some stuff that Christopher Tolkien pulled out of his daddy's paperwork and published here and there.....

You know JRR Tolkien said one thing about his works...."Just don't let them make a cartoon out of my work". The man dies....first thing they do.....MAKE A MOVIE THAT IS ANIMATED......

I am anxious to see the new movie....with REAL people....

Watch yourself with those so-called elven runes. Yes they are a version of the runes which you can use just as easily as any other (I suppose).

However, the ELVEN runes were created by J.R.R. Tolkien in his attempt to link his mytholgy of Middle Earth to the ancient ways of the old Pagonistic People of the old continent.

Therefore the elven runes were created by a man who died a few decades ago... mind you all the runes were created by someone or other before.

However I would stick with Elder Germanic Futhark, the Anglo-Saxon Futhork, the dotted runes, or one of the older more traditional Futharks. You will find them farily easy to work with, and can be adapted to work for your own uses.

What the Mad Vitiki is referring to comes from a passage in the Poetic Edda, implying that the Gods, the Giants, the Elves, the Dwarves, & Men all having their own sets of Runes. Thanks, UnSolon.
