I thought sage was most traditional for cleansing. I saw mention on another board of the heightened energy of frankincense do any of you know if there are specifically different effects from using different herbs for cleansing? are you all just going to say it's personal preference?
And, what herbs can be used for smudging, some are deadly poison when burned. A friend of mine ended up with severe acid burns all over his body from burning fresh patchouli. MUST BE DRIED FIRST.
Can I get a collective list of don'ts from all of you please? :bad:

you can use just sage for smudging, or with lemon grass seems to be most common. I have always used sage for cleansing because i fing it easier to burn then frankinscenece.

I LOVE white sage...the smell is addicting. Sweetgrass, cedar and tobacco are also great for cleansing.
JMO and YMMV,

Hi,
I found White Sage with Lemongrass smudge sticks. They werent that nasty smelling. The plain Sage ones made me gag...
To me everthing magick is intent, so anything will work. I use my favorite incense to cleanse my Tarot Cards. I also have a Broom. I used it to sweep away the negativitie then placed it by the front door to stop negativity from coming in. Think it worked last time my brother in law was over, he actually kept his mouth shut most of the day..lol

I also like rosemary, lemon and juniper berries for cleansing. I will put some lemon juice and/or oil, some rosemary oil and food-grade juniper berries in a small pot of water and let the scented steam from the boiling water cleanse my house (especially as my boyfriend hates the smell of burning sage). When the water has cooled, you can add some salt and asperge the area, as well, if you want some extra oomph. Works just as well and the smell doesn't linger in the furniture.
