View Full Version : Pat Robertson Rant!

Ok..I'm REALLY annoyed. Have you ever found yourself flipping through channells, really late at night, and you stop JUST for a second on the Christian Channell, and find yourself watching it for a moment? Well..I found myself watching the 700 club tonight, because they were having a section about Islam. I should have known that no good could come from me watching it. But..I did..and now, I'm really ticked.

Pat Robertson is apparently of the belief, that there are three kinds of Muslims. group 1, who he calls.."slightly muslim" who he says get into it for the ability to divorce your wife, and marry more than one woman. group 2, who he calls the "Moderates" who know a little bit of the Koran, but not much, who join it because it gives them.."something to believe in"..and sounds nice..but that they don't realllllllllllllllly know the tenants of Islam (paraphrasing him)...

And group 3, the fundamentalist Islamics who know ALL of the koran, front to back, and (in pat robertsons words) believe every word that the Koran says, and follow the teachings to the letter.

It is Pat Robertsons' (who..i'm SOOOOOOO sure , is SUCH an expert on comparitive religions) assertion, that Islam is NOT a religion of peace, and that if anyone READ the Koran, they would see that Islam (in his words) is a Religion of War, and bloodshed.

He asserts that throughout the Koran, it talks about the need for Jihad (well..DUH..but Jihad is meant to mean "holy struggle" not a terrorist war. It's an INTERNAL struggle), and that Mohammad condones war and bloodshed so that Islam might become the dominant religion of the world. This is honestly what Robertson believes. So in other words, to me, he was just preaching racial and religious intolerance (though, for the 700 club, it wouldn't be the first time).

I sat and wondered..does this man have ANY clue what the heck he is talking about? Does he even for ONE moment, think about ANYTHING he says, and the possible repercussions of it? Geez..we've seen a MAJOR increase in racially motivated attacks on people of Islamic and Middle Eastern descent since the events of the 11th. This kind of intolerance..and PURE ignorance that he was just preaching...is EXACTLY the type of thing to inflame people. He is drawing a VERY thin line in the sand between Christians and Muslims. He is basically, preaching to Christians, that Muslims (true muslims) are out to "get them" and "kill them" or convert the world to their belief. This type of COMPLETE B.S reallllllly ticks me off.

I used to live two houses down from a mosque, and alllllll througout my growing up years, we lived two houses down from a wonderful Islamic Family. We still remain close friends with them. They are wonderful people. This family, was fundamentalist Muslim. And I can assure you, that they do NOT want to convert the whole world to their belief system (at least not anymore than fundamentalist Christians do)..and especially through violent means. I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ticked off right now, i can barely see straight!

Thats another thing that ticks me off. He's pointing a finger at Islam, and saying they are Evil for trying to convert everyone to their faith..and yet..what have the fundamentalist Christians been trying to do for years??????? I'm not talking about every christian...I'm not christian bashing...I'm referring to the fundamentalist, hardline Christians...such as Mr. Robertson, and Mr. Falwell.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR.

You're repulsed by circus clowns?

Wierdo :D

I'd liken it more to people who slow down to try and see an accident, or people who thought it'd be a great idea to show people jumping out of the WTC a couple dozen times.

I couldn't read past the first few paragraphs or so. I'm so furious right now. How could someone in good consciousness, someone who supposedly has morals spout such false hoods? Especially at a time like this. He's fuling ignorance! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup! I know what you mean, Danus. Last night I watched a program called Focus something or other. They had a "reformed" wiccan HP who had converted to Christianity. All through the segment, I kept yelling out "that's not true!" Hubby kept telling me to turn the show off but I couldn't. Had to see it to the bitter end. Yuck! It's like driving by a traffic accident. Morbid curiousity, I guess.

I don't care much for circus clowns either. :p

Just a note: Maybe this thread should be moved to the Political Pagan thread? I can see us getting a good discussion going over there. :)

Um, it sounds to me like Robertson hasn't read this little book called the BIBLE recently!!!! I (personally) wouldn't call Christianity a religion of war, but there are plenty of tales about war (condoned), death (condoned), pestilence (brought down by God on the Christian's oppressors), etc.

And does Patty not follow the teachings of his God to the letter?!?! If not, does that mean he only follows the rules that suit him? (I'd argue the latter...)

But you see, it's okaaaaaaay for Christians to do that (according to Patty R) because Christianity is right. Islam is obviously wrong and therefore evil, again according to His Highness Patty.

Makes me grrrrrrrrrrowl too, Danustouch. I'm surprised he didn't slam feminists, lesbians, homosexuals, socialists, and pedofiles in the same breath. :flamer:

You have a good point about blood pressure, Myst! Mind you, mine is on the low side to begin with, so a little rise every once in awhile is probably good for me!! hehehe

I wouldn't say the bible condones war or death.

I'd say certain people have/do.

I'd say certain people have/do. I completely agree. When I said that there were condoned examples of war and death in the Bible, I was speaking from within the context of the Bible itself. There are passages where either people in the Bible, or aparently God himself, felt that fighting and/or killing was necessary to triumph over an oppressive force. I can't think of any examples where it says that war or killing is permissable overall; in fact, there are examples to the contrary.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. Thank you, EP! Here is the passage for those of us who may not have a bible handy:

There is a season for everything, a time for every occupation under heaven.

A time for giving birth, A time for dying;
A time for planting, A time for uprooting what has been planted.
A time for killing, A time for healing;
A time for knocking down, A time for building.
A time for tears, A time for laughter;
A time for mourning, A time for dancing.
A time for throwing stones away, A time for gathering them up;
A time for embracing, A time to refrain from embracing.
A time for searching, A time for losing;
A time for keeping, A time for throwing things away.
A time for tearing, A time for sewing;
A time for keeping silent, A time for speaking.
A time for loving, A time for hating;
A time for war, a time for peace.

Too easy to misinterpret and misuse this stuff huh?
