Helping someone who is blocked

I have a friend who went through some really hard times magickally, dealing with what was most assuredly a cult. Now he is walking a much lighter, and free-er path but can't seem to open up, sometimes when we are doing energy work or what have you he says it feels like something is blocking him or like he is hitting a wall. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be, or how it could be over come?

He is probably blocked out of some sub concious reaction. If you are into reiki you should write the problem down, draw the symbols and reiki the paper every day until the problem clears up. If you are more into magical style healing a good way to get rid of emotional blocks is to work with water spirits. You could go to a river or ocean (preferably a "moving" one) give the water spirits some offering of food or something and ask that he be realeased of what is blocking him. This is a clear case of "One burnt, twice shy".

Your friend placed their trust in a group, and it was abused. Since they know it was their choise to join the group, they now don't even trust their own judgement. That's where the block is.

A good general rule is, that if a group (or individual) DEMANDS trust, then they don't deserve it. The whole point of The Path, is that you learn to figure things out for yourself. After all, it is called Self-Realization for a good reason. All of the answers to all of the questions in the Universe, do already exist within yourself. The problem is, to get your personal Ego in attunement with your Real Self enough to see what those answers actually are.

Real Spiritual Guides empower their students, they do not make them servants. Real Spiritual Guides show people how to figure things out for themselves. Real Spiritual Guides teach people Courage, not fear. Real Spiritual Guides want their students to attain their fullest potentials. Those who are Enlightened want the company of more Enlightened people, they do not want worshippers.
