My friend has just joined the Wiccan path and she asked me to find the Goddess who appeared to her and fitted her description. I said i knew just the people to ask ;)
Her Goddess has strong ties with the element of air, and she is a Celtic Goddess. She has blonde hair and is often represented by a butterfly. She THINKS it might be a dark goddess but shes not sure and she appears as either a maiden or mother.
can anyone help???

Celtic? But I swear I read about Persephone fitting that description. Someone with more knowledge about the Greek pantheon may be able to clarify that.

why does she think she is celtic? other than thats what fashionable? _happydanc
maybe your mate should go see her again and perhaps try asking? if she wants to walk this path then pehaps now is the time to take of the training wheels and have a go at going it alone - heck, if this goddess is interested she should be fne.

i agree, with that little to go on... It's hard to say... not to mention people often confuse Celtic and Norse pantheons anyway... the best person to ask isn't us, it's her... :) Tell her we said good luck! :)

IMHO, she should go to the library and start doing her own research.

There isn't really a "celtic" pantheon, so that makes things somewhat more confusing.
Also, butterflies don't sound terribly indicative of "dark" goddesses to me, though I guess you never know. Certainly doesn't sound like any of the Irish or Welsh goddesses I know.
None of the celts used the maiden-mother-crone thing, so that also complicates things by your description.
From the greek mythology that I know, it does sound a bit like Persephone, but I've never actually worked with any of them, just read about them, so I can't be sure.

yeah i thought a Greek Goddess would fit her description especially seeming she is of a distant Greek background. she says 'Celtic' because she is very in touch with the more green/natural side of witchcraft. As oposed to wat i don't know.
Oh and she has done her own research, i'm just offering a helping hand as we share info with eachother :)
thanx for help

Well, Persephone was the first name that came to mind. I remember reading something about butterflies being connected to her, so I don't know.

A blonde 'Celtic' Goddess to me conjures up Arianrhod. Though butterflies aren't associated with her. For some reason Lilith comes to mine when I think of butterflies.
Although that said, isn't the butterfly associated to Reincarnation? I could be way off, but its a thought. Arianrhod does correspond with Reincarnation.
