What would be a good price range for a deck? I've looked around a little and there's things from five dollars to over one hundred. Would it be ok to get a used deck?
Thanks ahead. :hmmmmm: I'm a bit clueless.

For your first deck, something under $20 should do ... full sized cards are better. You will need to decide what style of deck you want to use, but there are many sites that have samples of cards, from just a few, up to full decks. My own preference is for the Robin Wood Tarot, which is of the Rider-Waite type. I find that the cards are very expressive and easy to learn to work with, but YMMV. Most folks start with one of the Rider-Waite variants, and move onward and upward from there. There are a lot of divinatory deck styles, not all of them are tarot.

:) Ok. I've heard of the Rider-Waite decks before. Thanks. :)

Unfortunately, it shows me how much there is left to buy ...
(I probably have two dozen or more decks, couple sets of runes, as well as "assorted other stuff". I'm a compulsive collector, I think. Well, no not really, because I do use them. I don't buy them just to have them.)

Many people begin based in traditional tarot decks as RiderWaite and Marseilles. It would be easier for you to to begin with those type of decks than complicated one. Get a deck that you like, appeal, feel confortable and very connected to it. Below, you can look for more tarot samples. Hope this helps too. :tarotwitc

well, i would look around at pictures before buying a deck... for your first deck, it will be easier to learn using a rider-waite style deck. basically, look for cards where the minor arcana cards are illustrated with scenes instead of just showing symbols, like 3 cups for the three of cups. when you have cards like these, you can learn their meanings by looking at what is going on in the picture. its so much easier, my first 3 decks were all the boring kind, and i could never really memorize the meanings, then i started working with a different deck with better pictures, and i can now understand them.

when i got my first tarot deck, i got one that had a cheater book that went with it. the cards didnt really help me out. when i started studying tarot, i use the rider weight (however its spelled) the cards tell a strong story when you look at them with a deeper meaning. some times more info comes from the pictures on the cards than the little white book that comes with it does. use your instints on what appeals to you. but if you are staring out i would start with the rider weight. when you get the hang of hte cards buy the ones that speak to you. they can be any thing if you have a likeing for dragons, faireys, celtic stuff ect. you can always find a deck that fits your tastes. i even found a deck that was baised on sailor moon (i would have loved to see them but the internet store that i saw them in was out)
good luck with fiding the one that fits you best
