I found this in this book at my work Crystal and Gem by R.F. Symes
"A 16th-century French verse tells how Bacchus, the god of wine, declares a rage that the first person he passes will be eaten by tigers. This turns out to be a beautifu maiden named Amethyst. The goddess Diana quickly turns Amethyst into a white stone to save her from the tigers. Regretting his anger, Bacchus pours red wine over the stone as an offering to Diana, so turning the stone purple. "
How neat! :D

The Garnet is named after the Promegrante seeds that Persephone ate before leaving the Underworld to return to her mother.
"There is an ancient Greek myth behind the origin of the word Onyx or onux, the Greek word for fingernail. The legend says that Eros (Cupid) clipped the goddess Venus’ fingernails while she was sleeping and scattered them on the beaches of the Earth. Seeing what had transpired, the fates turned the fingernails to stone. These stones became the chalcedony stones that the Greeks called Onyx. Centuries later, the Romans applied the term to black and dark brown chalcedony. "

"Garnets have been known, for centuries, to contain compelling healing powers and majesty in their luminescence and adornment of the powerful. The name garnet comes from the Latin word for grain or seed: "granatus." It took on this name for it's similarity in looks to a pomegranate seed. Pomegranate's association and symbolism with garnet has been a long standing one and has been referenced and related to in many works of literature up to and including those of Greek Mythology."

I like that quote! I may walk to the beat of a different drummer than most as I do try to see things thru love and look for beauty in uncommon places.Tis how I wish to see the world.Secret treasures that are there all the time but no ne else sees them as I do. _pounce_
