How to Choose for another?

Recently I've been thinking about making a talisman or dedicating a crystal to give to my SO. Of course, I want it to be significant and have it be beneficial for him. I'm just starting to really delve into learning about crystals, and I bought this book "the Crystal Bible" and I've been going through the directory, trying to find a stone that would fit just right.

Only thing is, (and, this is going to sound bad, but I don't know how else to say it) there are just so many aspects or things I could see that could be helped. I go through the directory, and I see "that could be helpful to him, or that, or this." Truth be told, _I_ would have the same problem picking out for myself. But I don't want to give him a BAGFUL of gems and hope they will work. I'd really like to find a single stone that will help him in as many ways as it can without over taxing it, and to keep it simple for him.

If I have a list of stones that are "of interest" how do I go about finding out which one of them is best for him without having to spend hours in the store or buying every single one to figure it out first?

Any suggestions or input or anything would be useful. Thank you muchly!

You can first do a little research on your SO's sign and attributess... That will elimated some of the stones that may cause conflict. Then from there, you can check on his favorite color...daily activies...etc etc

Maybe this is overly simplistic, but a birthstone is a good place to start too.

I've always been so drawn to amethyst... I almost messed my pants when I found out it was my birthstone. I know, I know -- it's strange that I didn't even know my own birthstone. But in truth, I've only been interested in rocks and crystals for the past year or so.

I agree with this. As i have done this a few years ago.
also when you have a choice of many of the same type, I usually think of the person in question and pick it for them as i would myself.

Significant? Beneficial? Harmony is of course a wise choice, but another equally valid selection would be prosperity. Prosperity encompasses a great deal in a positive manner, so it is beneficial to everyone for just as things can always get worse, they can always get better too.

I agree for an SO rose quartz is good. If you want something good and all purpose what about quartz? You could do cool things with paint on it will let you if you get a nice flat clear piece. What kind of amulet do you want too? Theres a lot of cool stuff you could do depending on if your doing more then handing him a cool crystal that has been precharged with your best wishes.
