Hi All,
I like the Tarot and read cards to folks at MW and in person - just for fun, not professionally. I know some about astrology but not that much. This question would be good for someone who knew a little about Tarot too.
I found a general Tarot spread online and in books that uses the Astrological houses and signs but I need help with some of the descriptions. The spread is 12 cards and layed in a circle. Each card position relates to a certain house or sign like this.....
1)First House - Aries -- Personality, appearances, outlook on life.
2)Second House - Taurus-- Financial matters, material possessions.
3)Third House - Gemini -- Matters of communication.
4)Fourth House - Cancer -- Old age, endings, home environment.
5)Fifth House - Leo -- Children, the heart, creativeness
6)Sixth House - Virgo -- Health and hygiene.
7)Seventh House - Libra -- Marriage and partnerships.
8)Eighth House - Scorpio -- Death and losses.
9)Ninth House - Sagittarius -- travel and dreams.
10)Tenth House - Capricorn -- Careers and ambitions.
11)Eleventh House - Aquarius -- Friendships and associations.
12)Twelfth House - Pisces -- Self-undoing and karma
My questions:
Are these keyword descriptions more related to the house or the sign or both?
Are the descriptions accurate?
Are there better ones or more you can add?
I have particular trouble with Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces (hahaha all the water signs) because their descriptions seem to overlap or are vague. I think Pisces would relate more to Spirituality - the whole self undoing, karma thing is way too vague to use with tarot for me.
Look forward to some advice on how I can improve this spread so I can give/get more out of it.

thats a horoscope spread. each sign has its own house, which has its own significance. so the card that falls in the first slot would deal with your outlook on life, etc. this is connected with the aries sign. the spread just basically gives you a general outlook on many aspects of life. i really don't know much about astrology on its own, so i don't know if i've helped at all, or just repeated stuff you already know.

LOL you are repeating stuff I already know. I know enough about astrology to understand which house goes with what sign and some basic descriptions. But before I go changing the descriptions I thought someone who was fluent in astrology could advise me.
Thanks for info though,

As far as the tarot is concerned, it is related to the house. With the astrology, signs do take on the characteristics of the houses that they naturally rule, so they are very similar.
I have a horrible time doing a horoscope spread because I learned astrology first. The houses mean too many things to me to get an accurate reading from. If you want the absolute base of what each house means, I break it down like this:
1st- personality
2nd- things of value to you
3rd- close communication (speaking in person w/ someone or speaking with family or close friends)
4th- foundation
5th- fun and enjoyment
6th- health
7th- partnerships
8th- things of value to other people
9th- distant communication (education, travel, spirituality)
10th- public image
11th- friends, hopes, dreams
12th- self undoing/ hidden problems
Now, for the water signs. I relate them all to emotions. Cancer is loving, shy, sweet, take care of family emotions. Scorpio is dark, secretive, obsessive, intense. Pisces is other worldly, dejevu, spiritual.
One thing that I have to do when doing this spread is double it. Two cards for each position. I find that it helps me narrow the rulership of the house down so I know which house aspect the cards are talkin about.

Yes, as Valkie said these descriptions are more related to houses than signs. There are similarities - the keywords for the 3rd house include "communication", and that's a good keyword for Gemini, too. But "endings" is a 4th house matter, *not* a Cancer keyword.
For third house, I'd add brothers and sisters, early education (school, not university) and local travel. For the ninth, I'd add philosophy, politics and religion and higher education.
I've got a very basic Quick Reference Guide to signs and houses here with some keywords:
