New member here. I want to know if anyone knows anything about the thoth deck.

I have never actually had my hands on one personally but have viewed some pictures online. It seems fairly complex to me. I understand they have a different set up from most decks. Different cards ect. i know I have read several comments about them being extremely difficult for beginners and even though I have studied for a long while now, I still consider myself very much a beginner.
Here is a link to a site that has a great review of many decks and also a couple of pics from the thoth deck.

I think the deck you mean is the one produced from
Aleister Crowley's imagination and painted by a
lady called Freida Harris. It is heavily based on
the Quabbala (i think that is how it is spelt) and so
I think it may be harder to read for a beginner
because of this aspect. i know when i was looking at
Decks to buy I didn't want anything based on the
Quabbala because I didn't (and don't understand it
at all. Also Crowley's "book of thoth" which
accompanies the deck I found really hard to understand
and I still haven't got on to the main descriptions
of the cards.
The first reading done for me was done with
a Thoth deck, the images are very vivid and some of
them can really jump out at you.
I believe it is the sort of deck which will be
amazing for you if you "click" with it, but it always
sort of scared me a bit. Of course I also know
people who love it and get fantastic results with it.
good luck

As Wildwood suggested..this is probably not the best deck for a beginner, then again, maybe it is...everyone is different and takes to things in different ways.
Crowley's Thoth is very vivid and by using, usually, you can dig just a little bit deeper than say with a more comtemporary deck (Rider/Waite.)
Now before I get flamed! I am not saying that the Thoth deck is better, I am just saying that when and if you do connect with it, things can become clearer and more vivid to the reader.
That being said: This information is all passed info...this is info that friends have told me and from AC's words. I use the Robin Wood Tarot.

I have a set of the Thoth cards that you spoke of, and the corresponding book. They are my first and only set of cards. (for over 20 years). I've looked to replace them but nothing has ever 'felt' right. Yes they take an immense amount of study and even after as long as I've used them I'm still learning.

Of course, I would have to say that even with a Rider/Waite deck..if you are doing it right...20 years down the line you can still be learning to use them as well. I think the Tarot is a constant evolution of the mind. Constantly updating its symbolism with how we connect it.
Anyones thoughts?

Indeed! You will always learn new symbols and gain new perceptions of old symbols that will completely change how you view any one card, just as life changes your perceptions of a can of coke throughout your life. (Coke means my husband to me now, as he collects coke, but in college it was gross, because I liked Pepsi better, and as a child I would have asked you what coke was, I drank RC). That could easily happen with a deck as well.
Now, why do I jump decks so many times if this is possible? Well, most of that's me. I need almost a physical sign that my journey is progressing onward and I'm learning and viewing things differently. Changing decks to me is the physical proof of that journey. Silly, I know, but hey, we all have our quirks.

I feel that Tarot speaks in many different *voices*. All voices are valid, some are just more suited to a particular situation or question or mindset of the seeker. I find that people find one or two decks that really speak to them.
I have a few decks, don't use them all. Mostly use my albano-waite since it began talking dierectly to me when I was in great need about 18 months ago.
My first deck was the Hanson-Roberts and it's lovely watercolored prints and soft maternal voice were just the thing during that Plutonion period of my life.
Thoth is the deck I use when particually angst ridden. The readings were so convoluted and layered, I spent hours just dissecting them
Ancestral Path for a voice from the Elders, Ansata for a weighty answer and then I only use the majors.
Halloween Tarot when happily playful and contented in life. The time around Samhain makes me feel this way. I'd love to pick up the Baseball Tarot as I'm sure it will have the same cheery voice as the Halloween Tarot.
Robin Wood I use only for spells.
The Faery Wicca Tarot didn't give me readings worth a darn.
Tarot of the Old Path is my fave Pagan deck, my old stand by.
