Hello all, I am a brand new member, have only practiced green magic so far, and need to find a hazel tree to beg a branch from for y next magic class (need to make my wand). I was told Hazel is the most versatile, and at first I wanted Oak, however I have never actually seen an oak in Utah....
Anyway, can anyone help? :broomride

Thanks! I read on a celtic site (can't remember the name) that Willow is mainly for water magic, and healing...I was thinking of using Willow though, there is a Cane Willow near where I live, thought it may be kinda cool with the twists and bends, you know for personality :)

Which variation of oak do you want? Because I think you should be able to find white oak in your area

well, I actually didn't know...barely starting the class and Tracey only said to get either Ash, Oak, Pine or Aspen, then I did an ask jeeves thing, led me to angelfire.com, led me to wanting Hazel....searched ask jeeves again, led me here...been here since;). Seriously though thinking hazel will be best for me as I haven't decided what realms to limit myself to yet...

Hazel's a fantastic wood for a wand; very neutral and gentle
It grows in hedgerows, both wild and because people plant it so check the hedges in supermarket carparks kind of thing, too. At this time of the year there wouldn't be much foliage on it; the buds are usually little red furry things iirc. I'm not sure whether they will grow in Utah though...
Good luck xx
