View Full Version : What's going on?

What is up with all the drama, tension, and countless personal arguments that are creeping up to the surface here on MW? I'm seeing so many threads about "undeserved red karma", just as many "goobye" threads, and a bunch of criticisms of one thing or another.
Does this kind of stuff come in phases? Does it die down and then start all over again after a while? What's going on?? :foh:

It is quite normal. Mw is a pretty large community. People come and people go. Some people grow up, others stay immature forever.
It does come in phases, and when the tension builds up too much, we do something about it.

Yeah, from what I've seen since I've been here, there have been periods of tension that just pop up out of nowhere. It'll probably go away when things cool down.

sometimes it comes, sometimes it goes and in other aspects it lingers here and there ...

I have quit for 1 Day, 4 hours, 53 minutes and 58 seconds (1 days). I have saved $13.23 by not smoking 48 cigarettes. I have saved 4 hours of my life. My Quit Date: 4/30/2005 12:00 PM

I wonder how much of it this time around is in part due to end of semester stresses for those of us in high school and college? Tends to bring out the worst in a lot of people....

I've noticed that too. I actually have been so wrapped up at COT, I haven't paid much attention to Just Talk recently. Too much homework and lessons to create!! :)

To be honest I'm not surprised by it, this is a huge community full of many different personalities, it's only natural that people will clash from time to time, and if the discussions get too personal the admins will close the threads to calm the storm.

It's totally cyclical. I usually look for Mercury to be in retrograde when it DOES happen, since that's usually a sign that communication is going to get gnarly for a while.
And seriously, Xen's right...it comes, goes, comes again. I usually advise people to take a break and come back when they are calmer rather than leave altogether. Having btdt myself, I find it the best way to handle a community so diverse and full of so many from so many different walks of life.

it wasnt like this when i first came here.. i must have come during a calm phase lol.. one thing i have noticed about the majority of the arguments is that alot of the same ppl are involved and they dont always read the posts completely or correctly and so they only have half the picture and yet they still go off half cocked.. as long as there are no personal flaming matches i think debate even when heated is a good thing.. when a person is losing their side of the argument/debate and starts to flame others that it becomes a problem..not everyone is going to agree with everyone else if they did life would be boring and as for red karma well all it is is a red box its not like a person is cursed for life if they recieve any..

I personally have not noticed it. Things such as this tend to pass out of my mind swiftly as I find them to be utterly irrelevant.
Cycles are the way of the cosmos, however. Sometimes things are more peaceful and serene, then tension builds, and eventually it is released, perhaps through disgruntled threads or bitter goodbyes. It's happened before, it all shall happen again.
For now Mystic Wicks seems the same as always to me, but then again as I said, I tend to not notice this sort of thing much. It is part of human nature to overlook things which do not matter to us. [shrugs]

I wonder how often these cycles come because since August 3, 2004 I had never seen anything like what's happening lately, lol. Or maybe I didn't notice before.
Some people get WAY too sensitive and paranoid sometimes, geez.

Allright, I just got back after 2 years away, and this is probably common knowledge to EVERYONE else, but, red karma? What is this touch karma, red karma, I giveth and I taketh?

You are correct. I giveth adds to the posters karma and I taketh removes some depending on how many karma points you have. It also reduces the amount of karma points you have when you give the red karma.

Welcome back to MW, AstralEyes!
Here's a link to The Karma FAQ (http://www.mysticwicks.com/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_karma). That should answer most of your questions.

MW goes through cycles just like everything else. I have noticed it over the last 2 years ( i was a lurker for a year before i joined). When the cycle turns i just disappear for a month or so until it all calms down.
It's the same with posts too. Same questions get asked here about every 2 - 3 months. Different people, same questions.

It's the same on every forum I've ever been part of. There will always be disagreements between people just the same as real life. Just in real life perhaps we tend to be less gung ho about it, on the net we feel more confident to say exactly what we think.

That makes sense. I haven't been here as long as some people, but I think I had just joined during one of the rounds, so I missed out on what was going on that time (thankfully). Unfortunately, I keep getting drawn into it this time, albeit just on the edges of things. I hate myself, the way I let things people say bother me, even when it is not directed at me, and I tell myself "Don't Do That! You'll make it worse!!!" But somehow I don't listen to me... then I go and read my "Handbook to Higher Consciousness" and realize that I must be a whole lot farther from that Higher Consciousness than I ever knew possible.
I will say that it also makes sense that a place that has so many members whose spirituality is closely related to astrological things, well, I guess those people might tend to be affected by the astrological cycles too, whether they are aware of it or not.
One thing that I have noticed is that odd and usually extra strong negativite things have been taking place around the cycles of the full moon too, both on MW and in RL, & ever since the whole tsunami thing happened I have noticed it more. I remember hearing about the earth's axis being only slightly altered, so although I'm not sure how this could be, scientifically, it does make me wonder if it could be affecting people's behavior. Of course, it could be coincidence, although I really don't believe much in "coincidence" myself.
And finally, this might sound like I'm a strange crackpot talking, but I have been getting things that I am interpreting as "signs" and I wish I were better at divining what they mean, but in general, I have a bad feeling that our world is being penetrated by a very, very negative energy right now and people get mad at each other because they are detecting it, and they think it's coming from each other...but I don't think it is...I think we are just reflecting it, but we are not the source...yet...
Also have the feeling that something major is getting ready to go down, not talking about on MW either...wish I knew if me getting these vibes is supposed to be a sign to help, but I feel pretty helpless, not knowing what it means...maybe that's why I'm starting to lash out at others too...I gotta stop myself, it's a false sense of control...gotta go edit something out of my sig that seems very un-nice now in hindsight...

Does this kind of stuff come in phases? Does it die down and then start all over again after a while? What's going on?? :foh: I don't think that the tension, drama etc. is confined to MW. It's all over the internet and out in the "real world" too. Everyone seems wound too tight, paranoid and ready to take offense and pick a fight at the least (or none at all) provocation. I'm a little more sensitive than most to the emotional atmosphere (not as sensitive as some, thank the Gods!) and sometimes it feels like I'm wading through a thick goop of nasty emotions. (It's one reason why I'm glad I live in the country - much easier to detox my emotions.) I guess the only thing we can do is be mindful of our emotional state, step back when we want to snap and when we think things might be getting out of hand on a thread, bring it to admin's attention, so they can deal with it in a way that we can't.

I've had only one thread closed due to some heated discusions, with a girl(Wont say) It was she had popped on the thread and outta the blue said I was gross when I was Repeating some lyrics from sexy eyes sung by Doctor Hook and I just told her in a nice father way to be careful and grow up.But it was closed due to the bashing at me,but everyone said sorry and forgave,on all ends..That was my first and only time I ever had a problem..It wasnt nothing major just alittle disagreement that was probably gonna get heated down the line,so a admin, decided to close it so it didnt end up in a bad way, which I respect his judgement for doing.Yeah I was alittle upset, untill I found out why,and I was ok with that after he explained what was going on.But you go on your way, have fun and meet great people here.As time goes on you'll find out that we really are a BIG family here, lots of love, care and learning just like a regular family, and yes...Sometime heads will butt and things said..But all an all,we manage to get back to forgiving, and go on with happiness and love and care and RESPECT for each other..

I've been here for a long time and the negativity comes in cycles... Just ride it out, ignore the cranky people and things will settle down soon.........
(Or you could sit back and enjoy the whole absurd episode...that's my choice... )
