Just one more example, taken from Ananova: A Case in Australia.
*************************************
Woman killed by husband and son for being a 'witch'
An Australian woman was allegedly killed by her estranged husband and son because they thought she was a satanist.
They were charged with the murder of Fiona Fitter in Glossodia, New South Wales, on October 16.
Police say the pair stabbed the 35-year-old nurse to death using knives and scissors, and kicked her several times.
George Fitter, 39, and Grant Fitter, 18, travelled to her house from their Katoomba home either on the Monday evening or early on the Tuesday morning to wait for her.
They appeared in Windsor Local Court, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Police allege Mr Grant Fitter told them he thought he had done nothing wrong by killing his mother because she was a witch.
The Fritters lawyer Roderick Storie said they would be pleading not guilty to the charges.
The father, a youth counsellor, requested he and son be placed in custody together.
The case has been adjourned until next month.

They're going to lose. What kind of arugment is, "We killed her, yeah, but we didn't kill her, my God. What i thing to suggest! She was a witch, after all. Shes better off dead. But killing her doesn't count as killing her, you know!".
I want to find out how old that kid is.

They will undoubtedly lose in court. But the point I draw from this is a reminder that the burning times are not behind us. There are those in our world who do find it acceptable to discriminate, humiliate, beat, and murder us because we worship the goddess.
This reminds me of the Tempest Smith case earlier this year, where a young woman was hounded into suicide because of her Wiccan beliefs.
While I don't fear for my safety, I for one would almost certainly lose my job if my beliefs became known.
The education, the advocacy, and the defense of each other must continue.

Personally anyone can get killed for their faith...I am pondering if the son and husband had other motives as well..Obviously they were unstable mentally as people dont wake up one day and say .....Oh lovely Monday....lets kill the wife shall we?
I wonder how long they knew she was a practicioner of a different faith....I wonder alot more than I will ever know about all this...

i just wanted to add that the lady that was murdered, Fiona Fitter, was my Aunty, her husband and children were so mentally stuffed from herion useage, that they had become satanists, but they believed his ex wife his mother was possessed by the devil and they were letting ol lucifer out. They convinced her daughter to help them, and she came home from work one night and they attacked her, she ran, she ran to a house near by it was a young single mother so she fled, she ran again to elderly peoples house next door, they couldn't help her, the killed her in the middle of the street using knives and scissors. The coroners report had ten pages of the wounds inflicted. Her husband, you'll never guess what his occupation was, he was a youth counsellor at a boys school, their son was 18 their daughter 17, they had serious drug problems, and the turn around of the century??? The last time i saw them all they were christians, and i don't mean church at xmas, i mean grace before every meal etc... think the flanders on the simpsons.... people people drugs are great while youre enjoying them ! But just see what can happen:fpipesmok

osean, I am very sorry for your loss. I assume from your post that your aunt was not a witch or if she was she did no harm. In any event, she certainly did not need to have the devil let out, that's for sure! It is horrid what drugs can do to normally sane people.
I didn't get the ignorant reference unless you meant that they were ignorant about what she was in fact doing. Belief in witchcraft in and of itself is certanly not ignorant.
-------------------------------------------------
This brings up an interesting theoretical discussion.
Given: Witchcraft is real and can be used to harm others.
Given: Some people accused of malevolent witchcraft are guilty do harm others.
Given: Those closest to them, families and neighbors, are the ones most likely to have the information that they are engaging in malevolent witchcraft.
Given: The laws provide no protection for anyone against malevolent witches.
Question: What should be the recourse for those who have no ability to protect themselves against a malevolent witch or whose religion prohibits them from engaging in witchcraft, themselves or hiring other witches, for self-protection?
I ask this because I am sure that many of those abused for being witches and using the craft to harm others are, in fact, guilty. Others, of course, are entirely blameless.

Ignorance ABOUT witchcraft. An ignorant ASSUMPTION that witches are evil, or working for the devil, etc. That is what the "dangers of ignorance" meant. Obviously, with more info, we see ignorance of what witchcraft is or is not, wasn't the issue. Drugs were.

I'd like to know why they thought she was a satanist or a witch.

I had a look for you and found something I think references the case they are talking about here:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/11/06/1099547433169.html?from=storylhs
It doesn't really add anything to what has already been posted though, as the article is about a different topic, and is just using this case as an example.

Thanks for the link. I know there have been laws passed here recently about killers profitting from their actions.

These people are obviously quite ignorant. There absolutely no justification for killing anyone. Unless in self defense, but if they were waiting for this poor lady, that's not self defense, that's premeditated in the worst.

All witches are not bound by the Rede nor any other moral creed. The unpleasant truth is that some witches are indeed evil. Not me or thee, of course.
