I was wondering if anyone picked a magickal name with the knowledge that it would change?? What Imean, is I stubled upon something that made me find or see my magickal name..but I know for some weird reaseon that it's not a permament one. I picked it to help remind me of things that will help me get to where I need to go. So , is that all that bad??

I don't have a magical name, so maybe I don't qualify to comment, but hey, MW is a cool place, so here goes.
I think it is fine that you choose a name that fits you for now. I think it is great that you realize that you will change, that shows a great deal of perspective. Some people get stuck, because they think they will be, or have to be a certain way forever.
In some Native American nations, names changed along with significant life events or spiritual revelations. A person could very well go through life having several very personal, very significant names.
Even growing up in the USA as an anglo, I have had several name changes, A birth name, a baptism name added, a confirmation name when I became a teen, a variety of nick names bestowed on my by friends and family, a married name I chose to take, a professional name, the titles my kids have for me, etc, etc, and hopefully, I'm not done yet!
I don't see any reason why magical names would not follow suit and change/alter to fit the new you that you will certainly evolve into.
I say....rock on!

That's a perfecty valid solution - as people change so do their magickal names. One of the first things Magick changes is you . . .
My last name embodies qualities I wanted to bring into my life, so that's why I chose it. Once it no longer fit me, I traded it in for a new one. I still use my old name as my screen name here at MW, but have moved on to a new name for ritual purposes.

Do what feels right to you. I wouldn't pick a name that I knew was going to change, but that's just me.

I have changed my magickal name because when I first had it, it sounded wonderful, but many mispronounced it and some other reasons, so I got a defferent one and I LOVE it. I believe that changing your name makes things safer and sometimes shows spiritual growth.

I don't have a magical name. I have my online name, which I am known by by many people, and I have my legal name. I also have a secret name the Gods call me, that no-one else knows.
I will be given a dedication name this weekend, during the dedication ritual by my coven and its' priesthood. When I become a student oathed, I might recieve another, and at each stage of initation I will get a different name. Not everyone will know all these names, tho, so I will likely publicly be known in the Craft by my dedication name, or my student name.
I guess technically my magical/Craft name right now is Nameless, since that's what my high priestess calls me. :p It amuses me.

Nope, not bad at all. You will be using it to 'get where you need to go' and that's exactly why a lot of people use a magical name. That or they pick a name that they want to grow into. I think it's a good reason to take a a magical name, as opposed to it just 'sounds cool'.

I've changed my magic name a few times...and heck I've even changed my full legal name too because I no longer believe it fit me! :hehehehe: So I don't see anything wrong with it. Pick a name that feels comfortable to you, that suits you; and if some time in the future you decide you've found a better name, then don't feel any guilt in changing it because you can out grow your name.

I would believe it a truly rare person that picked an initial name and found it fitting through a lifetime of training. In fact, realizing that your name will change is a sign of maturity and you should embrace it as such.
So go forward with your name in confidence, Longnose Giddyllumps.

I don't have a name but I'll comment anyways.
I see no problem with this. I mean, we all grow and change. If your name reflects who you are then it can't be the same always. Cause as we grow and change that name will no longer fit. Do you see what I'm saying?

WOW!!! Thanks everyone for your support!! I really like this name that I have picked and feel it fits great!! I wish I could share it, but until my initiation..MUM IS THE WORD!! It's nice to know that others don't think I am crazy because I know it's not a permament name. I feel this name will lead me to my other name and so on and so on..
Thanks

My name was chosen for keepsies. Heck I'm having it tattooed soon. But I know what you mean. I gave a magickal name to one of my students. One day I'm pretty sure she'll change it and when she does I'm pretty sure she'll have a name that means a lot more to her. A starting name is good if you need it and I support them wholeheartedly. When you are initiated and can reveal it to us, I would love to hear it.
