I have just started reading tarot and oracle cards, they have been giving me fantastic and accurate readings for myself but when it comes to reading for other people or situations not directly related to me they appear extremely muddy or they seem to have a mind of their own and read for myself instead.

I know as a beginner it is going to take some time to be able to take it all in and I don't expect perfect results from the get go .. To be honest I have been very pleased that they are working so well for my readings alone.

I am getting the impression that the cards are teaching me first before letting me read for anything else.

Any thoughts from others with this same experience would be much appreciated. :)

Oddlly enough, I'd have to say, yes, it's pretty normal. I had the opposite experience when I first began. No matter what I did, I couldn't get an accurate reading for myself at all. However, my readings for others were straight forward and usually right on the money!

Go figure.

Although I am totally open I feel I need to learn alot perhaps it's just a reflection of my need practice, does it sound stupid that somehow I am building a relationship with the cards ? Thats how it feels

That doesn't sound stupid at all. On the contrary, it means you're doing everything right! When you feel like you and the cards are actually "speaking" to each other, you know you're on the right track.

Enjoy the ride! ;)

This was the same with me. I could never get an accurate reading for myself, but could do very accurate readings for others... Over time, i now like doing readings formyself and can do them accuratly. I think it's just a matter of kinda getting used to the cards.

Same here. I could never read objectively for myself (still can't, really), but my readings for others are almost always right on. I don't think it's unusual at all to get mixed results either way, though--you're just finding your stride and yes, building a relationship with your cards.

The biggest hurdle for me in reading for others has been to check my ego at the door and leave all my own emotional baggage out of the reading. When you give a reading that hits close to home (as in, reading on a situation you've been through yourself) it's so easy to read your own emotions and thoughts into things if you're not careful.

The other thing I've had to learn in reading for others is that it's absolutely necessary to take a "leap of faith" and completely trust your own intuition. Personally, I have to listen to my inner voice carefully and immediately express the first thing that pops into my head related to a card or I end up over-thinking it and clouding the reading. Maybe that's part of the problem you're having when reading for other people. Just trust your gut! :D

This is totally normal - especially if the people you're reading for are close to you emotionally. I do readings that knock the socks off total strangers, but any time I draw for my mother or my fiancee, the whole thing goes haywire. It seems to be because I know so much about them & their question, so I end up drawing for the situation as I perceive it, rather than as it really is or as they perceive it. If you want learning to read for others to be part of what you're learning from the cards, have the person you're reading for choose the cards themselves. That way, you get the practice of interpreting the spread, and you can be pretty sure that the cards are about them, rather than you.
