Does anyone have any good techniques to induce vivid dreams? I have been having pretty normal dreams lately(like dreaming about real life only changed slightly) but I want ot have some really weird and interesting dreams.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

the power of suggestion always works well for me..
try doing unusual combinations of activities one day.. eg) go to a gallery/museum, then eat a large jar of pickled chilli's,a garlic pizza and a bag of skittles while watching some weird japanese horror/vamp movie then play with some barbies for an hour and substitute the letter t for the letter B all day when talking.. its bound to drum up some sort of weird and wonderful dream..if it doesnt make your dreams interesting it will certainly make your day interesting
its the only thing i can think of that doesnt involve something illegal and i would never recomend taking that road for the sake of an interesting dream..

I don't know about vivid, but I know how you can make yourself lucid. It takes some practice and time. What you do is keep some sort of journal of your dreams. As soon as you wake up, write down everything that you remember from your dream. After a bit, go through your entries and look for things that stick out that don't normally occur in real life. For example, one time when I was dreaming my grandfather was talking to my dad. My grandfather has been dead for about three years now and I realized that in my dream. Once I realized I was dreaming, I could do anything I liked because I knew that it was a dream. Another thing is to practice. It may sound weird but hear this out. If you test yourself during the day to see if you're dreaming, the easier it is to recognize if you are. Some good things to do is to look at the clock or a watch and see what time it is. Look back a few seconds later and see if it has the same time. Most always in dreams the time will change. You can also try reading a section of text. The majority of the time you will only remember a part of what was read and when you look back to re-read it, it will say something different or has changed in some noticeable way (it got shorter/longer, the typeface has changed etc.) I haven't done this much, but all of these things seem to work. Oh yeah, before you go to bed, tell yourself, "I am going to go to sleep and when I will wake up, I will remember everything I dreamed." or something like that. It will get you going on your dream journal. The first night I tried it I said that I was going to have a lucid dream and I was going to remember all of it. That was the night I dreamt of my grandpa.

Just some interesting info. I find lucid dreams to be the vivid ones too. If you feel the dream fading, here's a really odd trick that works. Imagine yourself standing and holding your arms straight out from your sides like your a helicopter propeller. Then, spin like one :p It doesn't matter clockwise or counter-clockwise but the feeling of spinning is something that 99% of us know and can relate to and for some reason, it continues the dream beacause it brings us back to that lucid state. Also, take a half hour nap and then go to the bathroom or something and go back to bed. You seem to dream more if you do that. It has to do with your REM cycles. It's not hard to find info on the REM and other stages of sleeping. Google it :p But dreams occur in the REM state and if you are in it more, the more likely you are to dream, and the more likely you are to have a lucid one.

It is said that sleeping with bay leaves under your pillow will bring you prophetic dreams. In my opinion though, just putting yourself in the state of mind to have interesting dreams, and suggesting it to yourself, will help. Maybe listening to some cool music or lighting some candles before bed, or some visualization will help as well. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! :D

So I have to run around doing really weird stuff, light some candles and put some bay leaves under my pillow, chant to myself 'I will remember, I will remember,' and constantly check the time and make sure the things I read don't change on me.
Better watch out Necro, I'll be weirder than normal this week. :bigblue:

Mugwort tea/infusion works wonders for me. Place a few leaves under your pillow as well.
