Hi! Wow. The second altar thread on here I've created. *lol* Here's the question:
How many of you have multiple altars in your home? Are they for different purposes? Where are they and what do you use them for? :) I have yet to set up a permanent altar due to space reasons, but I'm considering it now that my apartment has been expanded. I'm also considering setting up more than one altar - I'd like an ancestral altar like my host family in Japan had - that was one of the more beautiful and touching experiences I had in my stay there. I'd also like a regular working altar, and perhaps a couple mini altars (one in the kitchen, one in the bedroom).
What about you? How do you deal with multiple altars?

I think everyone on the planet (nearly) has multiple altars. I think it is just one of those things humans do, we collect stuff that reminds us of a time we were the person we wish we were more often. Fridge door, dash boards, bumpers, window sills, memory boxes etc are all altars to something in our lives.
That being said...I do have more than one intentional altar in my home. We have a family/seasonal altar in the living room. I have a more personal altar in my bedroom. Both morph as needed. We also regularly set up outdoor altars for holidays, celebrations etc. I do not have any specific altars set up to any specific deities.

I live with my mom so I only have one altar. It's in my bedroom and I change it often. However, if I did have my own home, I would like to have several altars throughout the home, in the bedrooms, the kitchen, perhaps the baths as well. I'd definetely have an ancestral altar in the family room and perhaps something devoted to Hestia over the fireplace (if I had one...lol).

I have too many. :p I have the working altar, a Morrigan shrine, a Brighid shrine, a totem shrine, a Danu/Bilé/Tribe shrine, an Egyptian altar, and a Horned Lord/Sun God shrine.

I have plans to set up several once we buy our house, but currently I only have one dedicated to Brighde. When we move however, there will be a central altar over the hearth, my Brighde altar, an ancestral altar, and an outdoor altar for the landspirits. I may also set one up in my bedroom - but it will be of an entirely different nature than the others as it doesn't really mesh with my Scottish polytheism and wiould be dedicated specifically to my Native American roots. I feel strongly that though I don't follow the paths of my Cherokee and Cree ancestors that they still need to be honored in some way as growing up Native traditions were an important part of my upbringing.
