Chicken Ticket (http://humboldt.cox.net/cci/entertainmentnews/national?_mode=view&_state=maximized&view=article&id=D8A016EG0)

"RIDGECREST, Calif. -- Linc and Helena Moore may have finally learned the answer to that age-old question: Why did the chicken cross the road? Because the chicken doesn't know jaywalking is illegal."

Maybe if they start ticketing all pet owners for their animals running in the road it will cut down on the number of pet deaths by irresponsible owners (although I would feel bad for the people who's pets truly are running loose accidentally). If your pet causes an accident you are liable for the damages so I can see the benefit of ticketing.

community of 50 residents Are all 50 residents on the road at once to make it such a big deal? :T

poor defensless chickens, they need to be kept in a coop, or fenced yard so they are not in the street. like all animals. i dont blame them for beeing ticketed. so its a small community. more people will come eventually and that means more traffic and animals.

Not necessarily, and in fact, not likely.

Note: I'm not disagreeing with the ticketing thing, or the fact that the chickens should be cooped. They should, for their own protection. But in a community of 50 residents, it's highly unlikely that the community will grow much (living in a rural community of 800 residents, I've seen this firsthand - most small communities these days only get smaller) and traffic will probably be scarcely a problem.

Then again, I can see the flip side of this, too - rural communities don't behave the same way cities do. People's animals are often loose. Chickens... not so much, due to predators. But likely, this isn't a one-time deal. Likely, these chickens have been loose for years, and in a town that small, everyone knew it and nobody bothered to do a thing about it until now. It probably hasn't even been much of a problem for anyone.

Likely, this *is* a response to the motorcycle thing from a small town's over-bullshitting sheriff's office (I work at mine, I know) and likely, ticketing the people who have the chickens isn't going to make them build a coop.

Of course, I could be wrong. :) In any case, I hope for the best for everyone and every animal involved.

i see your point, i was only thinking that there is so much over crowding in other areas that sooner or later the small commuintys will have to grow. i dont think that it will be a fast change.
