Have you ever experienced positive changes after you've finally moved out of a State that you've lived in most of your life?

That's happened for me and my Hubby. It seems that as soon as we crossed the state line into Connecticut (leaving RI on our way here to Memphis), our luck changed! Ok, we hit a slump when we were driving through Ohio with the major ice/snowstorm, but other than that...

I have always felt that RI is cursed. At least it was for us.

Dan (the Hubby) was passed up 4 or 5 times for a promotion in RI (Over the course of just 2 months!). We've been here for just over a month now, and 2 weeks after we got here, he was promoted to Assistant Manager (RentWay). And, a couple of weeks ago, they gave him the store. They made it official Monday. He's the Store Manager now, after only 2 weeks running the place, acting as Manager.

Just in general, things have been going our way and we're incredibly happy. Delia's even happier, because we can take walks nearly everyday, not having to worry about if we blink the weather will change. We're even within walking distance to the Zoo, so this weekend, we're getting a yearly family pass, so that we can do that during the day as well.

We have yet to meet a "mean" person here either. We're still getting used to people saying "Hi" to us, either when we're walking on the street or in a store. Up North, that doesn't happen. Things are also much more easy-going here, no one is in a big hurry to get anywhere or do anything. It's just so much different than RI and we're left wondering why we waited so long to move.

We also couldn't get ahead in RI, finance-wise. The Northeast is so expensive for everything. We were always drowning in bills. Here, we are paying HALF of what we were for a 2-bedroom apartment in RI. Plus, with Dan's promotion, we're living very very comfortably now. It's a nice change.

So after our year lease is up in the apartment here, we'll be either renting or purchasing a house. We just feel like we fit here, and plan to stay a very long time.

I'm sooo happy for you....I sure miss living in the South. It's like two totally separate worlds.
My kids had a hard time ajusting to the "cold hard North" and I'm not just talking about the weather. People are definately friendlier in my humble opinion down South.
Once I get myself together, I'm considering another move myself.
I'm sooo glad your luck has changed for the better!
Blessings to y'all! :D

That's really interesting. I live in MA and work in RI. I've always felt a lot of negative energy in Rhode Island. I could NEVER live there. I thought it was just me!!

That is awesome - I'm so happy for you and congratulations to your husband! :dancy:

I'm less than two weeks away from my move and I can't wait. As much as I wanted to leave the South when I was in it, I'm definitely looking forward to going back, pretty much for all the reasons you listed.

I hope things go just as well for us as they did for you.
