I had a bird fly into my house last week, and unfortunately, my cats got to it. It was injured, and eventually died. My husband said the same thing..that it was an ill-omen. But...knowing that animals are often the messengers of the Gods...I chose to look at it from a differen't perspective...what message might that bird have been trying to give to me? So...I had some friends look it up in some of their animal-totems book. One of which they used, was.."Animal Speaks" (forgot the author..sorry)..and the message that this little bird was bringing...was VERY applicable to my life at that moment. So...in talking to one of my friends she said.."ya know, Jean..pay close attention to that message. Obviosly..it was so important for you to get this message, that that bird gave his life to give it to you". So..what message may that bird have been trying to give? Research the Totem...What does a bird like that mean???Etc. Might give you some clarity on the issue.

And I agree with Mol by the way. People can attatch meanings to whatever they wish. It's up to you, how you receive an omen, or even if you DO receive an omen. For instance, how many of us really believe that black cats crossing your paths, are bad luck? I have three, and if that were true...man...my life would be a constant tragedy!

oops, i went to reply to what you said Mol and accidently made another thread. I am not sure if i beleive that they are bad luck or if i have been "taught" that they are bad luck. i do beleive in signs, and with everything going on with my daughter I have been praying to the Goddess and asking for a sign that she is gonna be okay. i am confused about the bird.

I'm not sure where I sit on this one. Yes, it could be a sign. Or it could be, well, a bird. I think it's totally up to you, and what you think it means. Sorry, I'm no help...

This comes from like Eastern Europe...or at least I'm pretty sure. I guess if you believe it, then that's what it is.

I've heard it though...only recently...however, I also heard that if two birds fly in your window, than that's very good luck. Not sure if that's true or not.....

Every time I drop a spoon or fork I say "we're going to have a female/male visitor"....because that's what I was taught. However, I wouldn't bet on it...in fact, it's often incorrect. So...chill....however dwelling on the thought of bad luck, often brings it. Know what I mean?

See I've always been taught that if a broom fell you should expect a visitor since I was like 5 yrs old. It's never failed

If a wild bird flies into your house that means a sign of death

When a bird flies inside a house or building, someone in the building will die.

These are the only two I could find though I could not find their origins or the history behind them.

My personal thought is this ..........It can only hold true if you believe it is true.

Okay so what does it mean if a bird flys in through your chimney, gets stuck in your wood-burning stove, and you have to chase it around the house til it flys out the door? This happens quite frequently at my mom's house. Used to drive her cocker spaniel nuts!

faeriedust: I think that when you make such a sign public that it somehow allays the impending situation throught the message. It is known here, on this ranch property, that when I accidently kill a snake, and do not tell others about it , that it isn't but about a week later that some believed-in deception becomes appearent. I have had this happen more than once. However when the accidental killing is publicized, nothing happens!

Hi and Blessings Faeriedust !!!
I have a good friend who is a Seminole Indian, and what he has shared with me was; that if a bird sits or is in or upon your home
it may mean life as well as death. Death of an old way of life or physical, or another who was passed on is to return to the family !!! Always loved there philosophies!!!
Blessed Be !!! zhowlingwolf

go nuts if a bird flies into their house. Daytime owls also not good. Live in Cherokee Nation area. Birds in houses and on has been in Native American superstitions forever. On house usually is a good sign. Flies in, they try to get it to leave quickly without touching, and some think it means a death in the house.
We posted a thread awhile back with all kinds of superstitions, like putting hats on beds. (dont do.)

use the search engine to find specific threads or areas of interest. Can be difficult sometimes, but is easier than going from forum to forum and guessing how many days back. :boing:
