i found it near an old lead mine on the serface (i think other people broke little bits off it)
the top is like an amythist cluster kind of thing except the crystal bit doesnt end, the seperate points are about a centimeter accrossat the top and up to 3 centimeters accross at the bottom.
its a goldy browntranslusent crystal with creamy/yellow/white opaque bits...
it about 10-15CM from top to bottom... and 5-10CM in diameter... and weighs about a kilo.
i dont have a digi-camara so i hope my discription is enough!
thanx!!!

what shape are the crystals ? hexagonal, flat, peeky, how many sites per crystal?
also, what is the stones hardness ?
can you scratch it with a needle ? a crystal quartz ? your finger nail?
if no to all: with a saphire ?
with a topaz ?
is it water solutable ?
does it change colour when wet? (other but getting more intense?)
is it solutable with acid ? (maybe get vinegar spirit (25% acid)

i think there hexagonal... there not pointy/pyrimidy but kinda andled i think... but the points are a bit broken because the top looks like it been smashed off for the crystal points... i dont think its very hard but im not with it at the moment so ill check nxt week... its not water soluable cos i wased the mud off it and scrubbed it underwater... it looks more goldy when its wet but not much difference...

ok, you said it was found near a lead mine:
maybe it is Wurtzite
hardness 3.5-4
chemically: ZnS
colour: light to dark brown; resin shine
fragile
Hexagonal chrystal system
grows in hydrothermal dikes

Hello from bristol :D
We do get a lot of quartz around here, so maybe it belongs to the quartz family?

yeah but quartz cannot be scratched with fingernails. quartz has the moss hardness of 7

you cant scratch quartz with finger nails.
more likely it could be a form of gypsum (selenite), talkim (serpentine) or calcites
but the hexagonal shape is what i feel strange about

Citrine maybe? That's what i thought also. Brielle. But Stormvixen scratched it with er fingernails. so this quartz variation would not fit.

You need to better identify it visually.
Try this website:
http://www.mindat.org/picindex.php?c=A.html
When you search through the alphabetical index, look for crystals that look similar to what you have in texture or color, then click on the zoom in of that picture, then click on the name again to see details about the crystal.
It is a very detailed database that has helped me identify many crystals. It will tell you the hardness, where it can be found and gives a color spectrum chart as well as many different photographs that show the very wide range of appearance of the same crystal.
here is one I found that might fit your crystal:
http://www.mindat.org/min-189.html
See also the gallery:
http://www.mindat.org/gallery.php?min=189
It does not however offer any mystical or magickal references though.
I hope this helps.
