I have a project for mythology, our final, where you have to create a society including thier values and myths. It can exist anywhere in time and Ive got all that down, but Im having trouble locking on to exactly WHAT the two aspects of my particular societie's gods are.
There are two aspects, the God and the Goddess. The Goddess is also called "The Fallen Goddess" and the God is more of a warrior type of diety but I cant give them much more definition than that.
Do you have any ideas for more fully rounding out the two gods?
For reference, my society is (Dont laugh, ittl be REALLY cool) set in the future and they are, very basically, space pirates modled after the French privateers of old.

why is she fallen? are they battling on oppsite sides or are they partners? Would that make him rule the light and her the dark? Tha t would give her control of deep space and him control of planets or something like that. they could be like seperated lovers whos paths only cross at dusk and dawn. where do you want them to go?

I have this much so far. The Goddess fled after those who worshiped her betrayed her trust, she fled into the stars. I have a picture of an angel with tattered wings for her. The God I have as a knight on horseback with his head down and he rides through the stars looking for the Goddess. The Goddess is an avenger goddess who harshly punishes betrayal or deciet. Thats about all I have so far

so they have some sort of relationship then, is he following to help or hurt her. She could punish through dreams, torment or drive insane those who betray. He would seem to be a good battle god, or explorer

He misses her and wants to be with her again but she is too affraid to return so she keeps running

then their chase could be the "reason the universe spins". but what role is he gonna play for human worship, is he a protector, another form of vengence, is he the love god?

so is love and revenge enough to run your society on?

Hmmm...
Well, where I would go with this (ooooo, fun game!):
She is the fled/betrayed/run away goddess. A harsh taskmistress, she does have a certain elite priest(ess)hood that have very strict rules. Little to no slack on what she does demand of them. Remember, honor amoung theives... and she will enforce that code. You don't mess with her people, and they are called in to arbitrate. Absolutely ruthless in enforcement... no one in that society will cross them... cross one and you've crossed them all...... Brighter side she mantains order and some social code. Darker side she lays waste to galaxies.... (remember... ship pirates... the planets aren't the important part of their lives... and she rules the dark pitiless between of space. One mistake and you and the whole ship could just be gone....) Perhaps the betrayal of her is what drove them to take ship, having lost their home planet....
Him: he is the intercessor. He can sweet-talk/seduce her into mercy. Has a better sense of human faility. Not a knight in shining armour, but still humanity's champion/defender. More primal/rough around the edges than she is... he can go the druken sot route. Think Johnny Depp's character in "Pirates of the Caribbean" for his lighter side. Darker side... well, think beastial bad drunk. He tends to be the lord of the port/harbor/land bases. One of the reasons they are rougher/wilder... kinda a free for all, her rules are relaxed there.

Not a problem... can you tell I read a bit too much sci-fi ;)?
Perhaps as a myth...some story of what they have to do to redeem themselves (gain her forgiveness) that then sets up the guidelines of their society? Or the story of how she was driven/fled into space and why they followed? Something that explains why they are pirates. Are they the loyal ones, disinherited by the betrayers? Or are they trying to redeem themselves to her?
