I understand the risks and responsibility involved in doing so, but I need advise on the best way to invite a ghost/spirit to appear to you or communicate with you. Something you can do on your own....

Not being funny -but talking to it works quite well

Why would you want to? Seems like the risks outweigh the benefits.

Why would you want to? Seems like the risks outweigh the benefits. It's something I've *always* wanted to do.... and I accept the risks.

you just have to start talking to it. But if you want to enhance it a little. light a white candle and pray that it may be a becon between you and the spirit. Burn some mugwort or other psychic herb as well. Just relax and call out to it. If you know the spirit it may help to add something that they may have liked in life on your altar such as coffee if they were coffee drinkers.

I've read that some people use automatic writing to allow spirits to communicate through them.

What are some other herbs beside mugwort? And have you done this sucessfully? Did it take a long time? What kinds of things would I say? Especially to a spirit I don't know...?

As far as incense goes I like lavender but that is just me. Um frankincense is good too. as is acacia, angelica, carnation, jasmine, lily of the valley,
lotus, myrrh, rose, rosemary, vervain.
I have used this method before but it was for my own ancestors. Ancestor reverence is a big part of my spiritual practices. It did not take a long time I felt their presence very soon after making my altar to them. I know you know the risks of calling any old spirit so I won't lecture you or anything but make sure you spend some time doing heavy protection visualizations and prayers spells ect.. before hand. if you don't know them just general things like candy water juice would be good. Um I am not sure what you would say because I don't really know what purpose you would have. If it was to contact a spirit guide and/or ancestor you would say your purpose. After you light the candle and ask for it to be a beacon between you you would say your purpose. I hope that what I just said made sense Im a little too uncaffinated right now.

Spirits tend to like nice smelling incense...but as with living peeps its a personal choice.

I'm very mediumstic (if that is a word) so only carry out more ritualistic affairs when trying to achieve something beyond just basic communication (which I can do as easy as typing this

There is the Ouija board, which is sort of like a writing tool for spirits.

I heard that was possible. I've never tried it so I wouldn't know for sure.

i'm in a similar predicament. at this very moment i am sensing something very strong outside my house. i know its a spirit because i did the test (lit a candle, it flickered and spat at me) and i want to invite this wandering spirit inside. what should i do? please respond asap.

I've also been so badly wanting to speak to spirits, and went through a crazy ritual where absolutely nill happened. I like the idea of automatic writing; though I don't own a ouija board, perhaps just a simple pen and paper will do - might try this when I sense something.

The only time I ever felt anything certainly was my cemetary walk back in April. I sometimes see tiny orbs of light in the dark, but probably just my eyes deceiving me. Whenever you watch those parnormal shows, spirits are always very large and noticeable orbs - course, the rooms are very dark, and I live in a big city.

Just invite it....they can normanlly hear you if you can sense them (sometimes it takes a person channeling in the spirit world and a channeler/medium in this physical realm to get a message through but if they can make their presence felt they will hear you)

Not all spirit orbs are big -especially when the rooms aren't pitch dark

Acknowledge the orbs when you see them -it will help develope your communication with them

But I can only see (whatever it is I see) through my peripheral vision, the same as auras (which I'm not very good at - though trying to further develop).

You often will find a lot of spirit around.

Hmm I might consider trying to start a class on here about spirit if I can think how best to do it since there seems a few people interested in learning

I tried watching some orbs and flashes of light tonight in the dark of my basement apartment, to see if they were really there or not. I was in disbelief until a tiny speck, almost like a miniature star, stayed in the air as I approached it. But it was so tiny that I lost sight of it as I drew too close. But it was so beautiful, and there's hardly any way it could been my eyes deceiving me. Wow!

Ouija boards can be done alone, with varying rates of success.. My best friend can do it with no trouble at all.. I cannot.. but, I can generally hear them talk to me without the board when they want to talk to me.. I've found that just acknowledging them will bring them to showing you more and more.. beware though, they may get a bit "crazy" sometimes.. playful if you will.. Overall though, It's an experience that I wish everyone could have. Some precautions might be good, but.. going overboard might make it harder for those you wish to speak to..

edited because I can't spell at 4:30ish am .. lol

You can also communicate thru tarot cards and pendulums with the spirit world.Automatic writing and ouija boards are also decent forms of communication if You are attempting to do this by yourself.

*how* do you use the ouija board alone? I've always been told i shouldn't...

I know you've said you accept the risks, but I have lived with two ghosts (neither of which I invited) in two separate houses. One was friendly, but the other... I can tell you from experience it isn't a good idea to invite strangers to live with you; they are not as easily controlled as you may think and can be downright malicious. So other than it's something you've "always wanted to do" what are some of your other reasons for this?

you could always offer something that is what I did as long as it is something they want they will not cause you harm or bother you later

I've used a Ouija board with some candles before, with some success. I've never been too great at channeling spirits though. The automatic writing that someone mentioned before is described here:

http://www.prairieghosts.com/auto_writing.html (http://www.prairieghosts.com/auto_writing.html)

http://www.spiritnexus.org/tools/automatic.htm (http://www.spiritnexus.org/tools/automatic.htm)

http://www.occultopedia.com/a/automatic_writing.htm (http://www.occultopedia.com/a/automatic_writing.htm)

Those are just a few site about it. I've heard it works quite well. I have tried it myself to no avail, but as I say, I dont have much luck channelling. Good luck to you and let us know how you go honey

I thought I was the only one that mixes mediums for spirit contact.. I once had a group of people .. a few on a board, one with runes, one with tarot, and I used a pendulum.. The readings put together were amazing..

How do you know that a ghost/spirit is present? I always do the ignorant 'show me a sign' thing, but it never works. I tried stretching my thoughts outwards to call something about an hour ago, while meditating in front of a candle flame, and now there's this ringing in my left ear that won't go away. And my entire mind is kind of like 'muffled' with static. But how do u know?

I know when I feel the touch it is a cold streak that runs so deep in your veins you think you will never get warm again. I also use a method considered dangerous by many I open myself up as "bait" if you will and let the spirit, ghost or entity into my body and mind not suggested unless you have others with you trained in removal of spirits unless you enjoy sharing your body

well spirit moves in mysterious ways -so the sign could be literally anything -a cold spot, a sound, something moving, a colour coming into your mind the list is endless

but having just said that ringing in yuor ears can be spirit trying to be heard so it looks like your call was heard

I'm wondering if there's any web links, for instructions on how to use Tarot to attempt to communicate? I don't own a ouija board, though I might try making my own sometime (or perhaps eventually buying one). Meditation just doesn't work, because all I can hear is static floating through the top of my head.

It's my experience anything outside the house, stays outside the house.
If it ventures in, it walks with god, and then it will be welcomed.
Please respond, asap.

My husband and I can feel spirits (my eyes will water badly & if I walk thru one it takes my breath away) and I'm working on getting better at it. So far I can say the advice already given here is good, just keep trying. I'm having to tell myself the same thing. Now from what I'm told you shouldn't have to protect yourself from your spirit guide if thats who you want to contact. Their probably IMO the safest contact, your guide is never supposed to lie or harm you, if they do it's another spirit acting like them.
