Hi All,
I haven't been around for the past few days, so I don't know if this case has come up at all. Here's a link to an article on the WLPA site:
http://www.celticcrow.com/news/westerly.html

Apparently a couple was found dead in their home this past week. The police are unsure if it was a murder/suicide, suicide pact, etc. "Pagan paraphernalia" was found, but police seem hesitant to link the deaths to their religion.
The article is a few days old, so I'll go take a look to see if there is any follow-up.

I guess it's a good thing that the police haven't done as the media have - that is, focusing on the medieval weaponry to the exclusion of the facts shown as far as the man being laid off and the custody battle.

It'll be interesting to the the final outcome of this investigation.

I think that ws very considerate of the police not to attach it to their religion

That's so weird! If they'd just found a Bible and a few crosses in their house absolutely nobody would consider their death being linked to their religion.

If i know anything about new englanders, and I do, as I was born and bred In Mass, they are slow to say religion was the cause.

I don't think you are giving the RI police enough credit. Wicca still isn't incredibly well known. With all the really fubar goth suicides, it's natural that they investigate every outlet.

The couple COULD have committed suicide for a religious reason that i don't know if any ofyou have considered..
persecution.

The cops have a right to look at everyangle.. just cuz they looked into that avenue, doesn't mean it was to the pagan communities fault.

There have been other deaths this year regarding teen wiccan suicide, I'm sure you have heard of Tempest the 13 year old i believe it was who hung herself because of the persecution at school.

Don't go jumping on the "oh those jerks" bandwagon till you get the WHOLE deal.

As for me, I wasn't referring to the cops' but to the media's "behavior" on this topic. And as the article on Witsches's League tells, journalists and co. were focusing the whole "background story" of the couple's death on their religous practices, without proper information about obvious negative aspects in their life that might have been reasons for their suicide as well.

generally it is usually the most "obvious" reason.

Sometimes it is sometimes it isn't.

Sometimes curiousity gets the better of people too.
