i guess i was kind of both, my parents planned tohave me but my mom wouldnt get pregnant. my dad was a heavy drinker at the time and she figured that it was either her or the booze so dad went in to rehab and when he came out mom got pregnant with me right away. i guess you can say i was a gift of sobriety. they thought that she would never be able to get pregnant. goddess works in mystirous ways funny to think that i actuall have worked in the addiction feild for the last 6 years helping others to become sober as well.

Out of curiosity...has anyone else been told that they were a 'mistake' and not a surprise?

My sister would get mad at me when we were children, and she'd try to convince me that I was a mistake and that mom and dad didn't want me. *laughs* She hasn't changed much...

I was sorta planned in that my parents got married and wanted kids, tried for about four years and nothing happened. My mom found out she was pregnant shortly after she realized she hated her marriage and wanted out....they were only married for 2 more years.

I was an extremely happy accident.

My mom didn't think she could have anymore kids after she was diagnosed with diabetes and then I showed up!

Well, my parents were legally separated but one one fine winter evening while my momma was in her sexual prime, they bumped uglies and 9 months later I came along. they stayed together, I guess because of me, and they separated again when I was 6.

Not really as to me but the date I was delivered was. Showing the stubborn streak early, I refused to come out about a week after I was expected and even when the gig was up, I still delayed things for 13 hours. Apparently, I knew that the month of January that year was one of the coldest on record and I was not not about to leave a place where I was warm and where I had it good to go out into the cold....

I'd fall under the suprise category. I was my moms first time, she was 17. She got married since it was "the proper thing to do" and had me before she graduated HS. So, yeah...suprise.

As for my birth mom - totally unplanned.

Wow...dead even!

I was planned--but in an idiotic (ymmv) way. My parents met at 16 in h.s. This was in the early 70's. My dad wanted to graduate early at 17 so he could start working (workstudy at its finest!) right away, and my mom didn't want to lose touch with him as she finished school. So they came up with the brilliant idea of getting pregnant, so that their parents would force them to marry.

And that's what they did.

...they're still married to this day.

I wasn't planned, but I wasn't a surprise either. They weren't trying to have another kid, but they weren't doing anything to stop having one either. Does that make sense? They knew they wanted to have another kid eventually, so whenever one came, he/she came.

And what a surprise. My mom was in her 40's and had her cords tied more than 20 years before. After me, since I was a c-section, the doctor checked and cords were still tied. That long ago hers were literally sewed shut instead of cutting and cauterizing. :) I'm only half adopted.

I was planned. So was my younger brother. My parents didn't want to have kids at first, but after they'd been married for a few years, they changed their minds and decided they wanted two. We're three years apart.

That happened to our dog. When we got her, we took her to be fixed, but she already had been. Well... a while later... tada! My dog came along. It was just two puppies, but one was um, wrong. Needless to say she's been re-fixed, and the pup has been spayed.

Gonna answer a little more thouroughly. I was definately a surprise. I don't know if they took any precautions. They were married. My mom told me it was her time of the month when she got me. (toooooo much info Mom). My half sister was a BIIIIG surprise. (same dad). My mom left a while later. (hmmmm...) My dad was then living with that lady and my half sis, when dunt dunt dunn.... my OTHER half sister (yet another mother) came along. (First sis' mom left too). Considering my dad was like 38 and her mom was 18, BIG surprise. Her brother, my half bro came along when my dad was sick.
My dad... sheesh.

She's gonna kill me for this, if she finds out. My friend (member here) was a surprise too. Her parents already had two kids. They had just moved into a house that had a poarch. ... My friend is a poarch baby. hehehehe.

I was as planned as I could have been 54 years ago. Mom wanted a "perfect" family of Father, Mother, Son and Daughter. And until I was 4 years old things were going according to plan. Then she got pregnant with my sister, and then another brother, and then another sister. ;)

i see your point on that other names for it, my freinds baby is going to be 4 this year and he was conceived on the depo shot (talk about surprise) the dr said in all the years hes been giving the shot she was the only one to get pregnant on it. and you know how they found out, she was craving chocolate she hates the stuff and always has and one day she said i want a chocolate doughnut and her (now hubby) says your pregnant. she fought with him about it a while and then decided to take the test and sure enough she was lol

Big surprise.

My mother wasn't supposed to be able to have children, according to her doctors over the years. She and my father were also married rather late (to their minds) and it took about 3-4 months for my mother to figure it out. I also was born 8 months to the day of their wedding (a bit premature... I was still fuzzy at birth.) They didn't have much time at all to adjust. My father was really concerned about just starting a family in his 30's.... my baby brother 7 years later was an even worse surprise though ;). At least my kid sister can claim to be planned.

I am in my parents wedding picture, that big bulge under my mom's dress... My oldest son is the big bulge under the dress in MY wedding picture. Hmmmm.

I knew I wanted two children. I was just surprised by when they arrived. My aunt says they aren't surprises, they are "gifts." I like that better.

But then, my brother used to eat snails too. Live ones off the front door steps. Unbelievabley, he was 17 at the time, alhtough now that he's 35 I bet he'd still eat them if the whim so took him!

I was an oops baby. My mom was 40 and my dad was 45. Im the last of 12 between my dads previous 2 marriages(5 girls) and my moms (6). The doctor tryed convincing her to abort, but she told him if she's raised 6,she could raise one more :D

Both.
I was born 4 1/2 months after my parents' wedding, but according to mum, dad wanted a girl first, & if she screwed up & had a boy, he threatened to leave her in the hospital.
I was never told that I was a mistake or unwanted, but mum always said that she wished she had waited to go to art school before she had a family.
'Shotgun weddings' are a tradition in my family. Not only my parents, but both sets of grandparents 'had to get married'.

Boy, was I ever an oops. My dad had an indiscretion with a native woman from the Tsuu T'ina Reserve, and then he and his wife--who had found out--decided to snatch me off the reservation (at that time, it was done a lot). Big oops.

I was planned. When my older sister was born, the hospital mixed up her charts with another baby with the same last name who was born the same night. the other baby was supposed to drink formula, so they fed my sister formula straight off. after that, she refused to breast feed. my mom really wanted to breast feed, so my parents decided to have another baby.

I was a suprise. so was my little brother. When I was 6, I was in school and told my teacher I would be getting a little brother for christmas. when my teacher congratulated my mum, when she came to pick me up, my mum was totally confused, and insisted she wasnt pregnant. A few weeks later she found out she WAS expecting, and Mark was born in December. :)

I was a surprise!! My mom thought she had the flu and then went to the doctor and he was all happy and told her "youre pregnant" and she was just thinking oh my god and in shock. When she told my dad he was delighted too and wanted to call everyone because he has like 6 other brothers and sisters so it was great for him but my mom never really babysat and was afraid to have me so she said "no dont tell anyone yet! i need to think!" but she was just panicky lol. She even had a dream that she put me in the closet lol. Then when I was born the doctor asked if she had any questions and she couldnt think of any, but then as he turned she blurted out "how will i know when she's hungry?" and he just laughed and said "you'll know.." But she turned out to be good at it and I was a very happy accident after all hehe. My dad of course was a natural. The man oozes baby instinct. Hes so cute with my nephew!

I was defaintly a suprise! my mom was 40 years old and she was told that she was pergent on Chirstmas Eve! And at that time my mom wasn't married and the Doc. told her she might have tiwns........but nope it was just me!! And I came early too!

I was sort of both. My parents wanted to have a kid, but weren't what I'd call actively trying. They're sort of the "if it happens, it happens" type, or at least they were.

Anyway, my mum had made an appt with her dr because she thought that she might be pregnant, and the dr said, "no, you have a cyst." My mum, always more certain of her own intuition and what her body has to say, sought out another opinion a few weeks later. Sure enough, I was no cyst!

I was a total surprise. I was 11 when I figured out that I was born 6 months after my parents got married. Unfortuneately at that time, my folks were in the middle of their divorice. Both of them told me over and over how that they were going to get married anyway (turns out their actual wedding was planned for the month I was born in) but pushed it up cause I made my appearence a bit early.

I was both, they had stopped trying when my grandpa got sick and decided to stop trying. And the week he passed they conceived me. So they wanted a baby, but didn't plan on having me when they did. But my mom did think she was pregnant when he passed and he told her "I hope it's a boy." but she didn't conceive me until afterwards. I feel a bit guilty being a girl, and it's caused me alot of pain thinking that his spirit hates me but I'm finally realizing that he'd love me either way. Yeah, I sound weird now. o_0

I was a surprise... and it was a surprise to hear that I was a surprise... mom and I were at a car dealership, just laughing and joking around, when I said "well it's your fault I'm here, you had me!" She said "No actually, it was your Nanny's (Grandma's)". I was like "Huh??" and she replied "Yeah, she's the one that gave us the condom that broke!" Turns out my parents weren't even thinking about marriage when I came along, they got married 4 months after I was born...
