Ok, today I tried what had to be the coolest form of meditation ever :)
I went over to the house of a woman who specializes in meditation, she spends about two hours a day minimum meditating and she came up with a very novel and new way to meditate. My friend brought me over and said there was something I had to try.
It requires some equipment and a pool (Or any body of water where you can freely submerge yourself fully underwater and have room to freefloat). She strongly reccomended that this NOT be done in a lake or pond as the environmental conditions might be un-predictable and hazardous.
I had to don a device that looked like something that Captain Nemo may have recognized. It was a full facial mask designed for diving. The mask covered my whole face and had a hose extending out the bottom. That hose normally would feed over my shoulder to an oxygen tank strapped to my back. But instead, the hose was over 8 feet long and had a syrofoam doughnut glued to the top. The doughnut was set about 6 inches down the tube from the end of my oxygen hose to prevent small waves from washing water into my hose and there was a small screen glued over the top of the hose to keep debris out. I also had to put on a belt with a small weighted belt to keep me submerged. The belt had a quick-release in-case the rig malfunctioned and I had to get out in a hurry. There was also a string attached to a bracelet on my hand incase the people outside had to let me know to come up.
After putting the mask on, I lowered myself into the woman's pool. The weight belt kept me below the surface while the syrofoam doughnut kept my mask hose above the surface of the water so I had a consistant supply of oxygen. I had to make sure my quick-release was easily accessible, my mask was on tight, and there was no water in the tube.
Two quick tugs on the string let me know that everything was clear on the suface and I would be left alone to think. I let my body go limp, flexing no muscles and closing my eyes.
It was quite an experience, I didnt get very far with meditation, but I came out of the pool very supprisingly relaxed. Im not a pro at meditation, I can count the number of times Ive given it an honest try on two hands, but the woman who let me use her rig swears its super effective. But if you DO try this, take some breathmints before you do because your breath can get pretty rank after about an hour :)
Just thought youd find this interesting :)
