Why do we feel that is "acceptable" to hide who we are?
Don't we have the same rights as everyone else?
I just wonder how people can feel so strongly about their religion and who they are, and then walk out the door each day doing everything they can to hide that which they are so proud of. (myself included)
It just doesn't seem right to me.

Uhm, huh? What are you talking about exactly?

The fact that a lot of witches/pagans/wiccans feel that it's OK to hide their religion.
I'm not advocating we wear neon signs and bright flashing lights, but, I don't think it's right that people feel like that HAVE to hide their pentacles under their shirts, or to hide their books, or altars, etc.
I do realize that some people live in situations were hiding these items is in their best interest. I just wonder why those of us who don't actually "have" to hide, do.
Sorry if I was unclear.

I have been wearing a pentacle on a necklace and/or ring since I was 18 in highschool, college, at home, out, and often at work. When I did put it in my shirt it was to prevent people who are ignorant of our ways from asking questions I didn't want to be bothered with. No one I know feels they have to hide it, but several cover their pentacles if they don't wish to be harassed by people who don't understand them and perhaps don't want to.

I agree Nyx, unfortuneatly there are a lot of ignorant people out in the world. While I don't broadcast my Pagan ways, I do hide my pentacle under my shirt on occassions. Mainly at school functions for my son & any "church" related events I have to attend. I wear it out a lot more than not. I do hide it when I think it may effect my son in some adverse way. I do it not only to protect my self from ignorant fools but to protect him from being teased and/or abused. It's hard enough being kid, especially for him, I don't want to add to the trouble.
