I found a cool link with a small exercise to help develop the ability:

Supposedly, with years of meditation and extreme focus, Buddhist monks (or some type of monk, forgive me) have been able to achieve this ability. To light a single flame. I believe it basically exhausts them to the point of illness for weeks afterwords, however.
Prayer and magic are energy, and flame is energy, so I suppose it is possible somehow, somewhere, to develop this ability. But I don't think it's something someone is born with, nor a "snap my fingers and all the candles in the room are lit" kind of a thing.

I certainly believe it's possible to light a cold candle (or anything with a wick) - but that's only because I believe that anything is possible. But I can't ever imagine myself (or 99.9999% of the world population for that matter) ever being able to achieve such a thing.
As for making embers turn to flame however (and vice versa) I believe this is a more feasible goal for anyone pursuing Pyrokinesis , because I've seen a Wiccan High Priest do it. _firedevil

*chuckles* but how can you prove that they didn't simply spontaniously catch whatever fuel she put there? Ah, the endless debate.
But no, I definately think it's possible. I have a friend who has had the incredible privilage to witness lighting a cold wick. And he's not the sort to make stuff up... according to him, this person was absofreakinlutely exhausted to the point of being bedridden for a while afterwords. I mean, can you imagine generating that kind of energy?
But, it's a cool thought. I just think the palms-spewing-fire thing is probably limited to Anime ;)

A match would be a lot easier...

A match WOULD be easier... but you can do it by raising a lot of physical energy, but I'd reccomend practicing with telekinesis first. It's possible... I mean, why the f*** would you be able to heal someone halfway across the world and scry a thousand years back through time (or forward), but OH NO you can't light a damn candle?! _pino_
Yeah, sometimes folks bs themselves too much.

Yeah, it was neat to hear about. I am not entirely sure of the circomstances, though. I think National Geographic had a program once about the amazing things that monks can do, but I don't recall what it was called... anyway, it had a segment about creating flame. They actually recorded it, I think. It was totally kickass.
Honestly, though - I'd rather a match

Wingmakers is an excellent site... you just have to wade through piles of "yay-fluffy-light!" and "weee!!!" to dig out the core stuff. Telekinesis, gating, anything is possible until you close your mind. :)
But feel free to choose what you want to believe.
