I have not touched my cards since 9-11. Not at all. I think I was scared to see what they would say. Now I am ready to start reading them again. I feel that there is not much energy in them right now. As it is, it will be like starting out at square one again. But I am starting to feel better mentally and physically and I think (hope) I am ready.
Do I need to re-consecrate them or anything like that? I don't know if I need it or the cards need it or both. :)
Thanks, and BB

Well, you might want to cleanse them if you haven't stored them "properly". And if you feel there isn't too much energy in them, let them lay in the sun for a while... :)
Follow your intuition. The cards will let you know what needs to be done :)

Chris,
I understand what you're talking about. When I was pregnant with my second daughter last year, I absolutely refused to do a reading about the pregnancy or about her. Weird huh?

Not weird at all. We're a superstitious lot, us pagan types! :D
Cleansing them is a great idea. I think I'll do that with mine too. They've been feeling a bit off lately.

i have the tendancy of clensing my cards after every reading I do...of course that is my preference.

My cards are sitting in a sunny window as I type. And later I think I will lay them on an amythest cluster that I have. They should be right as rain. Too bad I can't do the same for myself~ I wouldn't fit in the windowsill and the amythest wouldn't be to comfy on my hiney :p .
Emerald- I know exactly what you mean too LOL!! I think Wildchild has it right, we are a superstitious bunch. And that is a good thing.
Swannie, I hope that you are relaxing and enjoying your day off.
Thanks for the ideas- I think tomorrow I will start daily readings for myself and slowly work my way up again.

...as I don't go for the notion that there's only one way to climb a hill (but then I'm a looney one). Don't be hard on yourself if you haven't touched them; many of us were hit the same way. Are you up to taking them and doing a self meditation with them---maybe doing just a bit of a cleansing, more for your soul than for the cards, but they won't mind, prior to the meditation...? Do you feel like you need to reconnect with them? Sleep with them under your pillow; take them out and just look at them, don't concentrate on "reading", just take them out and basically say "hello, I've missed you."

You could also put your cards back in "order" Majors, then numerically by suit. If you have Sage incense, you could smudge your cards by running each card threw it's smoke. ;)
I like to reiki my cards also. :p
Some people just smack them a time or two on the table (like clapping, it disperses the energy) I don't do this however, I feel like I'm spanking a child for something they didn't do. lol :wah:
Those are just a couple ideas.

Ohhhh, the Eastern Shore:bubbles:! Years ago I lived in Northern Virgina and had the opportunity to travel a bit in the "Delmarva" area...well, as Mr. Dylan put it "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now", but I do hope to get back to that neck of the woods someday.
Anyway, out here in Oklahoma, where good diction is paramount:rotfl:, "root" sounds a lot like "rut", so either will work just fine! Or, just call me Robbie---/"rutwork13" (sounds like what the highway crews DON'T do a lot of here..

Always a good idea. I used to use sage and sweetgrass a lot, but the last few years I seem to prefer dragon's blood followed with benzoin or frankincense. Rosemary is good, too. If you feel like your deck may ever have absorbed some negative stuff, either sage or dragon's blood will do the trick quite nicely.

per ..HIGH JOHN THE CONQUEROR ROOT
IN AFRICAN-AMERICAN BLUES LYRICS
Chicago blues musicians Willie Dixon (left) and Muddy Waters
(right) have probably done more to familiarize white folks with
the magical uses of John the Conqueror roots (and mojo
hands) than any book on folklore ever could. Here are Dixon's
lyrics for "My John the Conquer Root," recorded by Waters in
1964. Thanks to Gorgen Antonsson of Stockholm for the
discographical information.
MY JOHN THE CONQUER ROOT
My pistol may snap, my mojo is frail
But i rub my root, my luck will never fail
When i rub my root, my John the Conquer root
Aww, you know there ain't nothin' she can do, Lord,
I rub my John the Conquer root
I was accused of murder in the first degree
The judge's wife cried, "Let the man go free!"
I was rubbin' my root, my John the Conquer root
Aww, you know there ain't nothin' she can do, Lord,
I rub my John the Conquer root
Oh, i can get in a game, don't have a dime,
All i have to do is rub my root, i win every time
When i rub my root, my John the Conquer root
Aww, you know there ain't nothin' she can do, Lord,
I rub my John the Conquer root
and I think i am out of graveyard dirt ...hmmmmmmmmm
Love and Light enough to see in the graveyard at night .........hehehehehehe

First time I ever HEARD of this root was in "Angel Heart". Not sure what really possessed---no pun intended---me to begin working with High John and graveyard dirt, but it did have something to do with Mickaharic's writings. And this is a tad bit off topic, if not off color, but if it's REALLY bad you just add a bit of menstrual blood to that root! Talk about 50 ways to leave your lover...ah, that's another song. Guess it helps that my property surrounds a graveyard; when I was growing up here I thought that everyone walked through graveyards at night!:shift:

about the "angel heart " reference.....but I first heard of roots from an old woman on the shore whose "cousin" had been admitted to our psyche unit.. because she ASSURED ME someone had " put the ruts on em " ........and when I said "put the ruts on em" " reflecting back [widely used psych technique meaning I have NO IDEA WHAT YOU JUST SAID MEANT .. but I hope if I repeat it back you will tell me ] she certainly did........ and I said now how does that work ........ and she wouldnt tell me any more so I had to do any further investigation myself...... and I was AMAZED to find how widespread it is and how often it is used and how it premeates the culture here on the shore without any hint of witchcraft surrounding it........
are we completely off topic yet???
hmmmmmm
maybe use a little highjohn to cleanse the cards............I personally like sweetgrass .. it is what the local RUTS practitioners use.....with a little graveyard dirt ......
Love and whistling in the graveyard late at night

About the same time I saw Angel Heart, I was working for an outpatient clinic in Winchester, VA. Got a call from the RN at the jail; an inmate was telling everyone else in the cellblock that "the devil was in his penis". :bug: Needless to say, this little Haitian man--in jail for being a cocaine mule--had all those rather large "bad boys" pinching their cheeks and screaming. The jail was insisting that I get this man outta there and into a hospital; Petersburg agreed to take him. About 10 days later I rec'd a call from a very patient, kind Social Worker who gave me the 30 minute lesson on "how to spot hoodoo/voodoo in psychiatric patients". That discussion, which "weirded me out" back in 1988, came back to me as my spiritual development finally kicked in! Our little man had a prescription for Haldol on him when he was arrested and he continued to receive the Haldol after he was incarcerated. Weren't too long before John Henry didn't stand up to meet him in the morning, so he concluded that the devil was in his penis. The SW explained that this guy MIGHT be schizophrenic but it was just as likely that he had been through some VooDoo rituals which may have altered his perceptions of reality. Since other "delusions" had still been noted, evidently the antipsychotic wasn't working anyway. Nix the drugs and let him have his erections. :p The jail reluctantly took him back (like they had a choice--he was not dangerous and hadn't so much as taken a swing at anyone) and I agreed to visit him in solitary every week. I did. He was seeing all sorts of things I couldn't see, hearing all sorts of things I didn't hear, John Henry stood up to say good morning to him, and so we awaited the INS's decision....he was there, in solitary, almost a year before he was deported back to Haiti. :boing:
I've always wondered if Rodney Carrington had heard about my little guy when he wrote "Dear Penis".....but then, I have a warped sense of reality and humor!

I don't hear the talk around here (SE OK) so much as I did when I was a child, but it was not uncommon to hear my mother and her family talk about "so and so hexed that thing" and such. Of course, they were Baptist. Scotch-Irish/German/Cherokee. Pennsylvania Dutch as well. Once in a while I'll run into 1 or 2 Choctaws or Chickasaws around here who'll talk about someone working medicine, but they're pretty closed mouthed about it around those of us who look less than half-blood. It still goes on though, boyoboy, does it still go on!

Thank you for trying to get it back on topic though! :D </Mod Mode>
I also think everyone occassionally just needs a break from their cards. Sometimes it's just not the cards .....it's us. My suggestion there would be instead of doing a reading, take time to meditate and clear out negative issues or thought patterns. ;)

Thanks for all of the suggestions and advice. I slept with them under my pillow- still not lots of energy in them, but I am sure this will increase as I handle and read them more.
