View Full Version : Are you forgotten when you change your nick??

Over the past months, I have become more and more fond of the nick Midwitch, as I feel that it embodies the two big parts of my life- being a witch and being a midwife. So, I have thought of asking to have my nick changed to Midwitch instead of HorseCrow.... but then I could not help fearing, that many people will not realise that Midwitch is me, since I have been HorseCrow from the day I joined....

So those of you who have changed your nick- have you found yourself "forgotten" or overlooked by those who knew you before- because they do not realize that it is you with a new nick?

Would I be "anonymising" myself by changing my nick?

If I were you I'd put the "old" name in your siggy or somewhere for a little while then we know who you are

Yes, that is what I plan to do- put HorseCrow under my nick. But not everyone will read it, they just see the nick....

You are fairly well known, so people will be looking for you. If they don't notice the nick change immediately, they will ask, and other people will direct them to your sig line :)

I'm sorry to say that I do eventually forget who people were. They put their old nic in their sigs for awhile, but after they remove it.....I can't connect them to their old names any more. Then I forget their history, and things they've said. Sometimes I don't even realize that they're people I dealt with closely a year ago.....and just don't recognize now :whatgives: :(

Change it if you like. I'm sure people will catch on to who you are eventually.

I agree with Faeawyn, 9 times out of 10 I have forgotten who a member is after they change their name. However, that said, I never forgot who Flaire was through her various name changes and I doubt I'd forget you, just cuz you're so well known.

I've seen anyone who has changed their name put their old one somewhere in their siggies like: "Formerly known as..." It's a good idea especially if you've been active and involved. I on the other hand, just changed my nick a couple weeks ago. It wasn't a drastic change (Went from Strega Del Lago to Strega Del Vento) but the new one has more of a significance for me and I use it everywhere on the net.

I didn't bother with putting my old one in my siggy, because I wasn't really active. I think I had half the posts I do now. But woo, ever since I changed my name I became really really active.. Subscribed, and can't shut up really.. Hahahaha

This is what I have experienced as well... users that I knew exactly who were, changed nicks and now I no longer remember who is who.

Think I'll stick with HorseCrow and keep Midwitch under the username....

 I'll admit having gone through four name changes on here. And, yes, people have forgotten who I was...until I said who I was.

If you make it known that you're you after the nick change, then people generally remember who you are. I know I connect you to your avatars, and I think Midwitch would be an appropriate nick change. I know a lot of people look at avs... Just keep the "formerly known as..." thing in the personal text above your av.

I changed my name with that very purpose in mind: being kinda forgotton. Or at least, overlooked.

Learn from history. The egyptians knew the power that is a name. That is why when one was to be shunned and forgotten, their names were obliterated from monuments, and never again spoken. Thus, their souls would be trapped, never completing the journey to the thereafter. If you change your name, your identity will be similarly obliterated, and you risk spending all eternity forgotten...

when my last account was banned I lost that name, when I came back many people remembered me without me telling them who I was.
