My skin has been totally freaking out lately. Breaking out so badly. Yuck!:flamer: Are there any herbs or teas that could help detox my skin and/or system? I have looked in all of my herbal books and all of their suggestions are topical. I have been to a dermatologist and all she did was put me on loads of antibiotics which not only didn't work, they hurt my stomach and gave me a yeast infection. Double yuck! :flamer: :flamer:
Any suggestions, pleeeeaaaasssseeee!?

Wildchild is better on the internals as for external there are a batch of ideas and things to try in the beauty recipies thread that may help with the symptoms while the herbs and detoxification help with the cause.

# 1 Stress..... there are anti- stress herbs such a chamomile and valerian ......meditaion and lifestyle changes.....
# 2 Diet...... you can change your diet
# 3 Immune System Echinacea Cats Claw ( a really potent antiinfective antifungal and immune booster) and Ginseng and Vitamins........
ALWAYS check for allergies and side effects......
Topically ..... I have yet to see a face that did not respond to the following...........
Egg YOLK masks to remove excess oils every other day at least........plain egg yolk separated out from the white and used just like any other mask....
Gentle salt and soap scrubs to exfoliate ......just use plain salt and DONT rub too hard......
Sage and mint steam baths ...... just drop some sage into a pot on the stove and let come to a boil reduce and let simmer and then turn OFF the stove and steam the skin on your face by holding a towel over be careful not to burn your self ...... it is just a gentle steam bath..... do this for 20 minutes every other day for a week... and see..... what happens........

As Swannie already mentioned, the causes are usually stress or something you're eating. That and the change in weather is tough on your skin. The topical stuff will help but the problem will keep coming back until you figure out what's causing it.
When you say "totally freaking out", is it breaking out in acne or just dry & chap?

Yvonne~ Thanks for the thread suggestion. There were a few recipes I would like to try- the basil toner and the yarrow. Now I just have to go find some yarrow. :D
Swannie~ 1. Yes. 2. Yes. 3. Yes LOL! The worst of it has been the stress and diet though. I really have had a rough time with the events of the last month. As a result, I have been stressed and eating poorly and not drinking as much water as I should. It is really taking a toll. I have started meditating again and taking my vitamin/garlic/St John's Wort supps. and that is all helping a lot. I'll check out the cats claw/echinacea too. Thx!
Wildchild- I am breaking out something fierce- as bad as a teenager. Someone suggested to me it could be an allergy or food reaction, how would I find anything out about that?
Thanks for all of your help. I feel really embarassed as a 33 yo woman with skin like a 13 yo.  :D But hey, at least I don't have wrinkles!!:nonono:

Funny that your dermatologist didn't try to find out if it's a food allergy. That's a toughie if it is food related. I know in babies, you have to eliminate all foods & add them back one at a time for 1-2 weeks to see if they're allergic to certain foods. For adults, it's harder to do this way.
It sounds like stress & diet are a cause here. You're stressed out & not eating properly & not drinking enough water. Try working on those & see if there's any improvement.
A good gentle wash for your skin is chamomile & calendula water. Just infuse 1 tsp each of chamomile & calendula in a cup of boiling water. Let cool & strain. Use that to wash your facewith a cotton pad. Salt rubs are good but if you're all broken out, it may irritate it more at this point. Also, the salt will hurt. An oatmeal mask may be more gentle for now as well, soothe the skin.
