Hi All,

I use cloth diapers and have never used disposable. My understanding is that you use less disposables because they are more absorbant and therefore need to be changed less often. I may need to use disposables on a part time basis and am looking into the cost. Especially the cost of the natural brands which are more expensive.

Say for a 2 year old...... how many disposables do you use in an 8 hour day? And what brand do you use?

Thanks!

Rhianna

I always changed my babies diapers after every feeding. So I changed them every 2-3 hours....unless they did a poopie :D
I now watch my 10 month old godchild from 9-4pm and I change her approx 4 times during that time.

Let's see for mt 2 year old...twice before naptime, twice before dinner and twice before bedtime=about 6 times a day, more on some days.
As far as Natural diapers go, I've used 7th generation. Most are way expensive! For the 3rd one coming here I've decided to do cloth.

Oh dear, it’s not about how much they will hold. Disposables wick the moisure away from baby’s tender skin and most have a stay-dry liner that helps even more. You can buy disposable liners to use with cloth diapers that will help, but you’re right, cloth diapers usually have to be changed more often.

Newborns have tiny bladders and pee more often so they should be checked/changed more often, about every 2 or 3 hours (unless you’re lucky and they sleep longer than that). At one or two years their bladders have grown a little and they can go more than 4 hours between changes. But it’s not like a regular schedule, it depends on how much they’ve had to drink and eat. And each child will be just a little different.

If you’re wanting to know how many diapers to send to day care for a two-year old I’d say it’s better to send too many than not enough. I would send at least 4 each day and the next day you just replace the used ones so you keep about 4 in the diaper bag. After a week or two you’ll know if that’s too many or not enough.

We used the WalMart store brand most of the time but once my grandbaby got older we had to use a name brand that held more at night so we didn’t have a sopping wet baby and bed in the morning. We used whatever brand we had a coupon for.

I have an 18 month old. He gets changed in the morning when he first gets up. Changed before naptime, after naptime. Again before dinner and before bedtime. I would say about 6 times a day... depending on what is going on. When I have had to send him to the babysitter I put about 4-6 diapers in the bag, she usually uses about 3 of them.

My son's 19.5 months old and he gets changed when he wakes up, sometimes before nap, after nap, and before bed. He also usually has one or two poopies a day, so that's two more, whenever they happen to be. :)

I have a 3 yr old and she gets changed in the AM after waking up...then gets another diaper on about12 ish or so.. then about 3 ish (as nap time is around there) and then again about 5 or 6 then before bed. I say six a day is tops.. but that is me..if she'she gets a new one.. but she usually poops same time every day!!

In 8-hours, we usually go through about 5 or 6, sometimes more depending on how much of a "productive" day she has.. Hahaha..

But, I probably change her more than that really. I don't care how absorbant they say a diaper is, I don't like any yucky stuff touching her skin.

I tried Huggies and Pampers on Delia, but the sizes seemed all wrong. I've used Luvs on her ever since she was about a month old. They're cheaper, and work very well.

My son will be 2 this month, and I'd say it's about 5-7 diapers a day. First thing in morning, just before lunch, after nap, before bed and the "random" poopy diaper.

Personally, the only brand I use is Huggies. Yes, they are definately more expensive, but my kids have sensitive skin and any other brand would give them rashes AND require me to change them at least 2 times as much in a day. To save on the cost, I buy them in bulk at Costco (or SAMs).

My son is 21 months old and in size 3 diapers. size 3's are about 12$ for an 80 pk and he goes through 10 or more a day! :holycow:

Holy moly, LT...your son must pee a lot. :) My son is 20 months, wears size 4s (I get them in bulk at costco), and goes through about 5 a day, (as I mentioned earlier in the thread). I always watch you posts, cuz your son's just 1 month older than mine.... I like to see how similar they are. :)

I change my son about every 2 hours. He sleeps 8-10 hours through the night, without being changed. Soo... What would that be, 7 - 8 diapers?

Though, sometimes its MUCH more often than that. :)

He has a nasty habit of peeing his diapers clear full RIGHT after I change him, so that I have to change him AGAIN, right then and there.

Sometimes we go through 3 diapers before I make it off the changing table. ;)

He's only 4 months old though... so I don't know if that will be of any help to you.

OH,

And, I use Huggies from Costco.

Or... since they don't have size 2's there...

I use Dri Bottoms from WalMart - which I really like.

Though, I do have to mention, these are ALOT bigger than some other diapers that are supposed to be the same size. Kinda weird.
