In the small town I grew up in, on Memorial Day we had the typical small town-type parade,with the school band,boy and girl scout troops etc. We concluded with a wreath laying ceremony at a memorial at the Junior High School, with the wreath being placed by a group of Gold Star mothers. During the ceremony, the poem "In Flanders Fields" was recited, by the Methodist church's organist. He also read General Logan's orders, General order 11, which declared Decoration Day http://wilstar.com/holidays/genorder11.htm
I hope this Memorial Day, we all take time out to remember ALL of our fallen, and also to thank the vets that are still among us :huddle:
