At the moment hubby and I are trying fot a baby. I thought I'd better go to the doctors and get myself checked out as my periods are pretty irregular. I also suffer with terrible cramps for at least a week before I come on. My doctor decided to send me for a scan.
The scan was at 5pm today. I was expecting them to say nothings wronge. The internal scan showed I have the apperance of PCOS. Whats that ment to mean, have or haven't I got them. I've been told to go back to my GP for a blood test to confirm. What if it's not PCOS, what else could it be.
I'm gutted. All we and I want is to have a family of our own. John was really sweet, he said not to worry we'll get through it, and that our child will be extra special because of all the problems we have had to go through to get them.
Sorry,I had to get it all off my chest.

PCOS means Plycystic Overy Syndrome. It's where your overies are covered in little cysts. I there are loads of symptoms like excess body hair, weight gain, tummy ache etc. None are very nice. It's also the leading cause of infirtilty.

Broken Lily, I'm sorry you have to deal with this. However, if you go to some fertility treatment boards, you'll find that the vast majority of women with PCOS are able to conceive with the help of Clomid. Not that it's a cure-all, and it can have side effects - but chances are you will be able to conceive without major interventions. :hugz:

They thought I had PCOS too because my periods are very irregular and without any other explanation. And when I say irregular I really mean infrequent..... like only 2 a year for my whole adult life. But the PCOS tests came back negative. While this was good it also meant further not knowing what was "wrong" with me.
All of this went down a short time before getting married when I my DH and I decided we would like to someday have kids. I was having doubts that I would be able to conceive, especially if I hardly ever ovulated. But the doctors assured me that my chances were very good with medications. But I wanted to hold of on that for a while.
Well I went off the pill, in 14 months had only 2 periods and one day found myself pregnant completely naturally!! I was shocked, beyond shocked actually. So I figure there is hope for anyone. Although it may not have been 100% me..... I was also seeing an accupuncturist for geneal health and optimal reproductive health. I do believe it helped me and I would recommend it to anyone looking to conceive. It can't hurt.
Best wishes and take care!!

I have 2 kids and PCOS, so dont give up! I had them before most symtoms showed, but they believe I have had it along time. They usually prescribe Glucophage (metformin) and the before mentioned clomin to get pregnant. the glucophage works to reverse the insulin resistance that comes with it, which fights the weight and hair, etc... It will be ok, hon,may be a pain, but it will be ok, :hugz: you can pm me if you have questions or just want to talk.

Join the club! I've had PCOS for many years. It's not that big of a deal I guess but glucophage didn't help me with crap.

My heart goes out to you, hon. :hugz: I've had VERY irregular periods since I first started menstruating when I was 11. Regardless of health, weight or any other factor, they've seemed to have a mind of their own. I've never confirmed that it was PCOS (you'd think that would have become evident when I had my two kids, but maybe not?) although I do have many of the other symptoms besides irregular periods. But despite the irregularity (like just a couple periods per year), I've had children, so definitely don't give up hope! The first time I got pregnant I wasn't even trying (in fact, we were using birth control, but it was back in the days of the Today sponge, so that doesn't quite count. ). The second time, I went off the pill and was pregnant a few months later. It can be done! :D

I'm sorry to hear your news. I was diagnosed with that a few years ago. It made me pretty sad to think that I have it and it may make things harder. However, at least if your doc knows about it the sooner you might be put forward for fertility treatment if you need it. i was only 20 when I was told but the doc said that if i try to have kids they will look at 'helping' me quicker than they would if i was not diagnosed with it. I hope that you get lots of support from your doc.
Best wishes x

I'm going to the doctors tomorrow for a blood test to confirm that it is PCOS. I'll the the whole situation through with him and discuss fertility options. I feel quite hopefull and positive that we will find a way around it.

I have PCOD and I know what you are going threw. If you go to PCOS.net you can find some good info there. You can also check around your area and see if they have any medical programs that are geared toward treating PCOD. I was in a program and it semi worked for me. It might have done more if I hadn't moved. :)

I'm so sorry to hear that. I was diagnosed with PCOS over a year ago but due to a rubbish docor I'm only waiting to find out the results of my blood test now. I found a great forum recently just for people with PCOS which might be useful for you. It's called soulcysters.com. I hope it's ok to recommend another forum on here. A lot of the women there have been or are going through the same things as you right now. I believe with the right treatment you can still have children though. After the blood tests your doctor should refer you to an endocrinologist. I hope this info helps, if you need someone to talk to who's in the same kind of situation though let me know.
